When ever I try to run SL it shows up this message. "The exception Floating-point division by zero. (0xc000008e) occured in the application at location 0x00ae5de3. Click OK to terminate the program." I can't seem to run it :( Could anyone help? I am running WinXP Home:( with Nvidia GEforce FX 5200. 128RAM on the video card

Have you tried uninstalling it completely and reinstalling it? I have found that has fixed weird problems for me sometimes - also, check what other applications are running in your system tray - something might be conflicting.

I have tried reinstalling it many times. The only two applications I have on Windows is my sound manager (RealTech Audio) and the Nvidia Control Panel. I normally use linux but I am not linux savvy so I do not know how to get SL on linux. I should would love to know though:)

It may be just the video card. I do not know. It is an referb:) That may be a small problem. Do you think so?

That's probably quite likely Matt. Firstly make sure that you have the latest drivers for your video card, sound card, motherboard chipset, etc...

Can you play other games successfully as what you're describing also sounds a little like a PC overheating.

Also unfortunately you can't run SL under linux yet, but perhaps someday!

You can run SL under Linux using WINE, although I haven't tried it yet--you definitely can based on what others here have said. Although, your specific Linux situation may be different so don't get your hopes up too much.

For the Windows problem I'd definitely bet on old drivers. :p Especially since it sounds like you have a fresh install there. (2 apps installed? Or running? Kill realplayer if it's running it sucks anyway lol..) Double check video and sound drivers, if that doesn't work move on to other less likely stuff.

It reminds me of an overheating type of issue too, but if it's only happening RIGHT when you start SL, that makes me think otherwise...I think overheating crap is much more random.

Thanks All:) I am working on my problem as of now. My system is a MSI Cube. (You know those cute little boxes:)) It may be old drivers on the chipset. Never thought of that one. If it is the video card I can buy a pretty good one from Newegg.com. ATI Radeon 9600 128MB ram for around 80 bucks. I have all the updated drivers on my Nvidia card. Thanks and I will post back soon :)

Well :( Sorry but the updated drivers don't do anything to it. Same problem. If it is an overheat what do I do? It's a cube system so I can't add a water cooling system or a fan on the GPU. heh That may be a small problem that the GPU does not have a fan! I can't add one though because the AGP slot is right by the case on the cube. I was lucky to squeez the card in there :) When is Nvidia coming out with their PCI video card? And any suggestions? Thanks

If you're buying a card only for SL, get Nvidia--not ATI. (compatibility reasons)

I'm no vidcard-performance expert but that one sounds ok otherwise as long as the rest of the system isn't badly outdated as well (see below for a similar bottleneck analogy), probably a tad better than mine.

OMG no don't get a PCI card, AGP cards can run slow enough nowadays. It's like buying $1,000 dollar speakers and hooking them up to a $20 used piece of junk radio (sorry can't think of a better analogy)...the PCI interface is so crappy/slow no amount of "speed" on the card's part will improve performance.

btw What the heck is a "cube" system? :p

I'm surprised driver updates didn't help.. (although it sounds like you're on a weird system....hmm)

Then again after looking up what an "MSI Cube" is maybe I'm not surprised.. :D You might want to post some more specs like the RAM it has and the CPU (something weird?)

If you want to try eliminating heat as a problem, run it with the cover off and blow a big fan on it, see if that helps; if it does at least you know the problem. Are you saying your CPU has NO form of cooling at all? I take back my doubt about heat maybe, then! :p

Ok Thanks! I think I know the main problem. The wireless PCI card gave off a LOT of heat (too much? heh). I removed it and went to a wired network. I still have not tried SL yet though. Been busy. A cube system is different and funny:) I noticed that I can't do a .NET framework on the cube but I can on other comps. (Another problem:)) Well a cube is a small computer system. Goto Newegg.com and look at their barebones systems. Most are 'cubes'. They are small and kinda dinky with a handle on top for portability. I have a Celeron !!! eek 1.7Ghz with 512 of ram.

Doesn't sound too bad, other than the somewhat unusual (AFAIK) system. Hopefully that will work.
