Crashing and Movement

Good evening, please help out a newbie

I have crashed 3 times since I joined Second Life (this morning). Why? How can I stop this happening?

Also. When I am in game I can pan left and right/back and forth but when i try to move my avatar foreward or back there is a terrible delay of up to 20 seconds, making it impossible to play.

Do I turn down the performance or something?

Hope you can help.

Go to your properties and slide down your performance to the minimals and see what happens. I crash from 20 minutes to a few hours, pretty much non stop, oh maybe for 3 years now.
