i have no fire wall up, i can hear sound in game ... it says i connect to the voice server... nothing... its annoying, any resolutions?

What operating system?
What kind of microphone?
What version of Second Life viewer?
Have you followed all the directions properly?

I have a Microsoft Lifechat LX-3000
I have both the regular client and preview, neither work
I have followed instructions
and I can talk 1 on 1 in PM's , but not conference or local

also it says
Connected to the local voice
then it says it again a few seconds later constantly , though it never says it disconnects
I have VOIP phone service, I use ventrilo, skype works flawlessly
so I'm really at a loss here
