I'm new to SL... I played it for a few days and it ran fine, but yesterday I tried to start it and it just crashed before anything happened.

Ive cleared my cache and user settings.
I reinstalled it.
I updated drivers for all of my hardware....

Still doesnt work...

Any suggestions??

I would suggest providing system specs.

Could you describe the crash in more detail? Do you see the login page?

What exactly do you mean by clearing your user settings?

Updating the drivers might cause or contribute to the problem. Sometimes older drivers work best.

OK...

Processor is Intel core2 Q6600 2.4
3GB ram
Asus Radeon HD2600PRO graphics card
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS2 motherboard
Running Vista Ultimate

Crashed really before anything happend... the SL window came up, but nothing in it, just the frame... then it died.. nothing at all. Sometimes the crash logger comes up.

Clearing the user settings in Application Data was one of the things the FAQ support thing recommended.

My computer is pretty new anyway so i dont exactly have older drivers.

What exact version of SL are you trying to use, and what version video driver?

You might want to open your case and verify that your fans are all clean and spinning properly, even though your computer is fairly new.

"Updating the drivers might cause or contribute to the problem. Sometimes older drivers work best."
The above means - the latest drivers don't necessarily work best with SL, even though SL says to always use the latest drivers. If you are crashing or not able to run the program, a different version of video driver, whether it's older or newer, can sometimes get it working.

There are also alternate viewers to try - there's one called the Cool Viewer and one called the Nicholaz viewer (actually there are several versions of Nicholaz viewer).

You can find either with a search engine looking for "Cool Viewer" or "Nicholaz viewer" . I've used both but there are a number of folks more familiar with them who hopefully will pop in here with some help on using them.

It is of course possible that they won't work either.

What exact version of SL are you using?

Are you on wired or wireless? If wireless, try wired.

Have you turned your computer, modem, router, etc. completely off for a few minutes and turned them back on?

Could the UAC or firewall be acting up ?

Im not sure what version of SL... i installed it this week so id assume the latest one.
The video driver version is 8.501.0.0 dated 2/6/2008.

How would I even get older drivers? Thing is it was working fine... i didnt even turn the computer off before trying to load it again... it just worked, then next time it didnt.

I keep all the fans and everything clean.

I have wired internet, everything has been turned off a bunch of times, SL is in my list of allowed programs for the firewall, and UAC is turned off (im the only administrator anyway).

Tried Cool Viewer... still no good :(
