I'm not sure SL is sometimes crashing on you........from your brief discription it looks more like your computer is sometimes crashing. The tip off? Your computer is freezing up.........or hard locking. That is not good......and something to look seriously into. SL, being extremely graphic and computationally intensive, could be the catalyst to make it happen..........but SL is not crashing.

Their are about a million things that could be the cause. But the most probable causes are heat, corrupted drivers (not just your video driver either), corrupted or damaged system files (operating system), and pending hardware failure (graphics card, hard drive, memory chips, etc). Heating it probably the most common. Check for all your fans operating properly, clean the inside of your computer with a couple cans of compressed air are two easy things to check.

The problem with hard lock ups or freezes is that just about the only way to get your computer back is to remove the power source. And doing that often corrupts system files.......and I think you can see the downhill progression with that. You could have just a dusty case and things get too hot and your computer locks up. Then you clean your case out and the heat problem is fixed..........but now you have an operatiing system with damaged system files. You continue to crash.

Bottom line...........find the problem as quickly as you can and fix it.
