Either Dell or the HP 9700 (with the Graphics card upgrade) would be fine.

I can tell you this stay away from the HP
and second SL and Lap tops DO NOT MIX! I don't care what anyone says I run it on one at times but you want to see how hot one can get give it 5 min. if you MUST have a lap top go with the XPS and BUY A FAN OPERATED COOLING PAD FOR THE BOTTOM BEFORE YOU RUN SL. And if you do the lap top make sure right off you have the max memory put in it will help.
AND IMHO stick with XP if you can Vista uses way to much memory for all the Aero stuff witch makes Vista cool, you will need to change settings to give SL the memory and such with it and there still seems to be some driver issues.

even though the xps is a gaming laptop SL is not the same as most games as you probably already know.

if you are looking for a great fast frame rate and killer GPX go with the XPS700 and max the memory out (yeah the giant 3 foot tower! ) dual nvidia cards and it will fly

if you do the lap top make sure right off you have the max memory put in it will help.

SL is so CPU intensive it really heats them up!

My two cents...

I never played SL on anything other than a laptop and both laptops I've been able to try were HPs. And yes, it does heat the CPU up. My first laptop now is over 4 years old, never had a single major issue (other than the power supply giving in) and still runs SL; slow (only 64MB VRAM) but reliably.

Make sure you get the best graphics card you can and do stay with XP if you can.

Good luck!

I have a dell inspiron 9300 laptop, at first didnt work as good as i wanted but i added another gig of memory and works great. It does get hot so best to have a cooling pad too. I actually want the xps gaming laptop even though mine is good that one would be awesome from what ive read about it

Now I tinking about, Dell XPS1530, Dell Vostro 1500 or Dell Vostro 1700.I prefer XP sistem but these laptops are with Vista-no choice. I can spend $1500-1800.

My configuration will be almost the same:

Tuxedo Black
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7500 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition
High Resolution glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD(1680x1050) & 2MP Camera
3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
Size: 320GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
Slot Load DVD+/-RW (DVD/CD read/write)
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card

What about Dell Inspiron 1520 and 1521? They come with XP. If someone use these models? Why Dell sell them with Vista and XP. Is there some problem or just old model?
This week I need to buy a laptop for sure.

Thank you!!!!!!

Quite honestly, I have been seeking a new laptop but with a video card that will give me mostly fluid graphics. My friend accesses SL on a mac and there is almost no lag in movement and "dancing animations" are very fluid.

A mac is not really an option sadly. Is there a non-MAC laptop that will give me that same degree of fluidity(sp?)?

I want to ask about ASUS G1S-B2. If someone know or have experience with this laptop. Wich laptop is better, dell Inspiron 1520 or ASUS G1S-B2? I need laptop not just for games but I want to run Second life successfully, because this is is my favorites place to relax when I have free time.
