The following message was left in LL announcements by Jeska Linden: From: someone How LL Determines High Score and Weekly Stipends High Scores Formula: The score is determined by taking: (behavior rating) x 466 + (appearance rating) x 401 + (building rating) x 401 + (referrals) x 5000 (Remember this was done to make the number deliberately obtuse.) Weekly StipendsFor weekly stipends, the bonus is based on the percentile of the person's score. Here's the breakdown by top percentage: 375: 2.5% 188: 5% 100: 10% 38: 25% 20: 50% I've always wondered how this is done. And yup, it is definitely obtuse. From what I read here (and please, enlighten me if it is otherwise)... LL places bringing a new member into SL as more important than good behavior in world. In fact, about 10.2 times higher! So according to this, you can be a total antisocial idiot, never build anything, never help anyone with anything, dress like a total obnoxious twit, but if you bring 3 people to SL.. YOU ROCK! Seems a little unbalanced to me.

Though, to counter, is it easier to convince one real person to purchase a Second Life account and list you as their referral; or, is it easier to get ten or eleven positive ratings (as simple as four avatars rating you positively on all counts)?
Better yet, which can more easily be done consistently, week after week?
With the impending removal of score/rating influence on stipend, and our continued attempts to de-emphasize (or perhaps even completely remove) High Score and other indicators of "game"-like competition, this will hopefully have less significance in the near future.

From: Zephria Zapata I dont know if it's me or if any one else this is happening to .. i have seen a dramatic drop in my stipends when i go thou gom ... has any one else look at the tranactions to see if thisa is the case on there part too one week i got the 500... then the the next week only got like 188 .. wonder what up with that ... ?? not complaning just wants to to what up with this ... ok ,.,, Yeah Zephria (and Lee, correct me if I don't get this right)... that's likely due to LL pushing the "sink" button to help remove excess L$ from the market. Right now the market is being flooded by who-knows-who. L$ value on the GOM has dropped from $4/1000 to under $3.50/1000 and there are more L$ being sold than being bought. So LL from time to time "sinks" L$ and removes them from the market to try to stabilize the system. One of the most effective ways to do that is to lower weekly sippends, which encourages people to buy more L$ and prevents them from having excess L$ to sell. Standard procedure. A terrific debate about methods to handle L$ value is at this link: /130/e6/61377/1.html
