LOL no offence but me neither, I build my own :-)

But Compaq and other prefabs are nice for those who know not much about system maintence...If it breaks put in the recovery cd.........one hour or so later a brand new install and off and runnin again.

Compaq makes good handhelds (iPaq), but they are expensive.

I would highly recommend -not- buying a compaq for a gamming machine. You will not have the upgradability or stability required to run games.

Also, is advertising allowed on the boards? I always just sorta ignored your sig, but this is bit beyond that.

if ya took the time to inspect that particular system its not the run of the mill compaq...
this is NOT an integrated system nor is it a Presario the kind ya see at retailers this is an entire different line and has FULL functionability ..

I HATE presarios and would rather not use a computer than to own one of them...

perhaps it is against the rules but to be honest I havent seen any posting rules and this does in a way pertain to tech Issues especially when so many are haveing problems with sub par equipment running SL properly

as far as my sig... i refuse to change it for anyone ....sorry :P

not to mention the fact im not the onl;y 1 whos has a web addy in the sig line, whats the factor here that its a money making place or a web page ?
because this one is both its my site , I have mine do you have 1 if so put it in your sig :P

I worked for the state as a tech. I had to install, upgrade and repair computers. The absolute worst period of my employment tech wise was when the department I was with had a contract with compaq.

We bought all kinds of machines - high end for number crunching to desktops, to servers.

Upgrades were horrendus accross all lines. Stability was never good. And support was aweful. When it was time to renew the contract not a single person in the meeting voted to renew it with compaq.

Like I said though, I ignore your sig. However to post a sale from your site not just once in the middle of a thread, but again to start a whole new thread?

I could understand if it was a SL business, although then this wouldn't be the place to put it.

Advertising
02-06-2003 14:19
Hey folks,

Sorry to kill this thread, but though we haven't explicitly said "lets not have real-world advertisments here" we intend to. nuff said.

Advertising in sigs? As long as it never extends beyond Rivns it won't be a problem. If it does become one, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

I'll get the forum rules up by tomorrow.

Hey dude, I don't know about Ama, but I reported it. Reason being it takes enough time to read al the forums anyway, and everyone here already owns a computer fast enough to run SL, so its not necessary, and the report to moderator thingy says only report ads, spam, and being a big meanie. you had an ad.

BBC
and you don't have to thank me :-)

And to hopefully end this discussion thread....
02-06-2003 15:22
For the record, if it hadn't been reported, I still would have made the same comment. I/We read every post in the forums.

For anyone following this thread, the intention of the forums is as follows:

To discuss Second Life, and everything related.
To discuss things that may affect Second Life.
To continue the community interaction outside of Second Life, especially since our hours are limited as of now.

We would rather not go through the trouble of creating an exhaustive list of things that we will explicitly ban. Rather, we expect that everyone examine the intent of the forums, and ask themselves if their post continues that goal before making it public.

Due to historical precedent, we do need to ban some things explicitly, such as advertising, spam, direct real-world threats, and anything that is real-world illegal.

A note of further intent: I think its fair to say that the word "free" (as in free-speech) has many different meanings to many different people. In the event that someone chooses to use free speech (as is generally permitted here) to violate the forum standards, we will sometimes lock threads, and sometimes remove them. It honestly depends on the case and the context. (Does this make it hard to enforce our standards? Yes.)

If the message thread contains useful information pertinent to Second Life, and it violates the standards, we have a difficult decision to make. Do we lock the thread? Do we remove it? Tough call sometimes. We'd rather pull threads as a last resort.

As long as the bulk of the conversation is centered on issues related to Second Life, then we will keep the thread alive. If it quickly disintegrates to conversation that violates our standards, we will lock it or remove it. There are plenty of places on the net for *those* types of conversations, we'd rather use our resources toward furthering Second Life.

Make sense?

Hope this post was read in the spirit in which it was written. No intentional singling out of anyone here, just a statement of purpose.

Peter well put.

This is a post to offer some relief from everyone wanting to enjoy the forum, and for the Lindens who have better things to do than to babysit. I would rather like them to have more time to perfect this awsome world of SL than to worry about flames.

If people want to argue, bicker or more or less be a pain in the forums, refer their posts to this......

http://users.boardnation.com/~kerstin/index.php?board=4

Then lock the thread, if you so wish.

It is a area I specifically designed for bickering. I request that if ANYONE wants to argue do it there so as to not affect to enjoyability for everyone else involved.

You do need to register for that forum in order to do the bickering so give it a shot.

This is not an advertisement in any way, it is ment as a relief for everyone involved in the SL experience.

No money
02-06-2003 15:34
For the record. Your2ndLife.com is solely a source of reference and fun. No real world money is taken from any user for any reason. No affiliate programs or money making schemes are engaged in. It is a source of personal entertainment to me, and hopefully helpful and fun to Second Life residents.

I even paid extra r/l money to have sales ads removed from the services I use so that people wouldn't be bothered by them.

Thanks -
Kerstin
