Hello there. I have a problem I cant get figured out. Since a while now, SL keeps crashing on me on a regular base. The crashes happen during regular operations, like moving, zooming in and out and such things. SL then will simply freeze(lock up, the sound would stutter for a moment and then SL closes for no reason, gathering the Hardware info and whatnot.
Its an annoying error that happends in both version 1.22 and 1.23. I already send a trouble ticket to LL and they said I should change some settings on my Graphic card, I did that but SL still crashes for no reason at all. Now LL tells me it could be an object I am wearing, but what object would let me crash?
Anyway, here are the infos of my Rig:
Processor: AMD Anthlon 64 +3200 1,80 Ghz 1.00 GB DDR 1 RAM GeForce7900 SoundBlasterLive 5.1 Digital And all that runs on Windows XP SP3
Graphic card drivers where updated and are up to date. I use of course Direct X9.0
I would be happy if anyone coud give me some tips. Thank you.

The reason is very often that your pc runs too hot. It could be either your processor or more likely your graphics card that gets overheated. Try to clean your pc and get rid of dust. It might be too late already. I fried a graphics card in the past because I didn't keep my pc free of dust. Now I clean it at least every month.
The reason for your crashes could be something else. But especially if the crash rate gradually increased during the past weeks/months, it could very well be overheating.

No, its not the heat. I clean out the PC regulary and I had the PC at the PC Shop once and they ran a Stress Test and there where no crashes or anything during that test, the PC is okay. Also, those crashes have appeared only a short while ago, after I upated SL and got new graphic card drivers as well. Before that I never had any problems and now you can actually set a timer when it will crash.
Even if I am not doing anything, just standing there the game crashes, but that after a time from roughly 45 mins to 1 hour. I checked all SL the setting, reduced them and whatnot, I also checked my graphic card settings and there is nothing wrong appreantly.
I am completly puzzeld about that problem, because I didnt had it before but have it now for no reason.

If the problem appeared right when you updated your video drivers you could revert your video drivers and see if the problem goes away.

What's your network cache size set to? Well, I would love to get more RAM, but my Mainboard dosent support DDR2 and DDR 1 costs twice as much as DDR2 and I am short on money currently. My Network cache was set to 400 MBs but I increased it recently to 1 GB, there was no effects, the crashes would happend regadless if I have 400 MB or 1 GB allocated for SL. My HD is large enough so, there should not be a problem. As for the drivers: I am not sure if I still have the older drivers on my HD somewhere. I could try to install the old ones, but I somehow doubt that its the drivers only.

The network cache size also effects how SL allocates RAM, a larger network cache uses more RAM.
Try doing a surface scan on your hard drive, too.

Try doing a surface scan on your hard drive, too. Already done this several times and there are no problems with the surface of my HDs, everything is fine there. Say, can it maybe have something to do that I have some of my HDs running in compressed mode?

I've been having similar problems too, for the last week and a half whenever i am in sl I am crashing constantly. Each time i am on the time period between each crash is getting shorter and shorter.
Last night i was on for 30mins before a crash, when i came back on I lasted about 20 mins, then when i got back on about 15mins.
I was not in a busy, laggy area, just sitting talking with one other person in a quiet area.
All my prefs are turned down as low as i can go in sl and i have not made any changes to my pc or sl in the last few weeks.
I am using Windows XP, Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.06GHz, 3.0GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce6200 LE. I realise these are very low specs but up untill this started i had been very lucky only crashing once or twice in the last year.
When i say i crash i mean that sl freezes then my pc restarts itself, not just sl quitting. I can use everything else normally for long periods at a time, its just when i use sl i get these crashes. I dont run any other programs at the same time when using sl. I am using sl version 1.22.11 and have been since it was released with no problems.
I am not very technically minded, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well, can these problems be caused by a defect RAM part? Because I downgraded my graphic drivers and still have the same issues. The Graphic Card is okay so is the Processor because these where tested in the PC shop, the only thing left would be the RAM.
So, could be the RAM cousing the SL crashes?

Try memtest86. Comes usually with a number of Linux install CD's as bootup option in case you have one.
