Today was omg Linden is going to work on the servers day. We know it's likely to be a frustrating experience on our end for at least a couple days until they reverse all the fixes they put into place. And once again, after giving the all clear log in, nothing loads, no attachments, database looks like it's tripping on acid. Avitar won't come out of I'm half newb/half me mode. It's just horrid the service. Just horrid.
In two years, two accounts.. the service has not improved. TWO YEARS. On a good day when you can teleport, I teleport and my hair from my head still ends up my butt. I just cannot believe a company cannot fix anything in two years. Nothing. And worse yet everything they touch becomes worse than the previous experience with every move taken to "FIX".
To be able to teleport with all attachments has never worked. Never. JUST A NOTE: IT'S BROKE LINDENS. It's very BROKE.
On a side note, thank you for closing the so called one man bank fraudsters down. There is no necessity for an in-world banking system. This gives people the notion that SL will run good enough, and for a long enough time to be able to actually teleport to another place on the grid to be defrauded. No since allowing the lies to continue.
Thank you. Tracy Welles

As long as you can't see the seams, does it matter if SL is splitting down them ?

Oh! I logged in. Looked like me. Had my entire inventory there. Rezzed a few things. Took a few things. Edited a script and saved it. Bought stuff and got it. TP'd a few times with no problems, didn't have any hair up my bum. And didn't crash. I almost miss having something to moan about!

I don't like it when people moan even before something happens....
And I have only ever had attachments up me butt three or for times in a year....

No one said that it wasn't possible to be a networking issue on the Linden Lab end. It could very well be a networking issue affecting just a few hundred sims. At any rate, there are others experiencing what I've experienced. /111/06/234464/1.htmlI've been in SL long enough to know how this works.. You might stick around for a while. Get a sim or two so you can pull the prims out from underneath it at 0,0,0 as your build crumbles into nothingness. A year or two will make a believer out of you unless things change drastically for the better. That and if you do anything at all in here besides fly around. Best Wishes, Tracy

Same problems here... unable to save notecards or add an attachment (the attachment took over 10 minutes to attach).
Also, I thought they were fixing the problem in search where parcels that are paid for to appear in search are not appearing in the new ALL search. A lot of people are only using this tab, and business is being lost because the parcel isn't showing. I have had this for some time and the lindens haven't hesitated to take the payment out of my account for these to appear in search. And, it just kicked me out for no apparent reason.

I was just inworld for an hour and everything was okay...I saved a few scripts, rezzed a few objects, bought something, tp'd around...changed clothing...

From: Tracy Welles ...
Thank you. Tracy Welles Sounds like youre having internet issues more than anything else. I have been running SL for 2 years on 2 platforms, never experienced these problems you're referring too. Its a HUGE system--most cannot even fathom the technology going on under here. One example, the amount of people who compare SL to other "games" they've played, assuming the architecture is the same. Most games are compiled and closed. other MMOs are restricted to a niche. None of them offer the amount of user-created content that second life offers. With that, comes bugs. The amount of junk WE upload causes much of the asset server maintenance. Which is why they were down today and why they are often down. All the 3rd party tools that allow us to upload files much larger than the recommended ones, all the stuff we blindly click on and take in to our inventories, complete ignorance of resource-conscious content creation. Always adding, never deleting. Imagine if this was your own computer's hard drive. how fast would it be taken down? WE respond to the scammers and spammers enough to keep them in business. We the users encourage camping which loads up the system with bots. We the users did not take enough time to learn how SL works and how to keep our land clean and high performance and secure. We the users dumped scripts and huge prims all over our land. We the users decided to grief others. We the users rarely clean up after our mess. (I know this is generalized, but i hope you get my point--e are pushing it faster than they can keep up) LL tries to cater to its customers. The features (or lack of) are a result of how WE run second life. The client is open-sourced, meaning We can develop on it if there an issue. Instead, most of us complain. just as guilty as charged, and accepting of the occasional downtime because of it. [end rant] [citation needed] SL evolves via paradigm shifts more than a gradual curve. So you may not see much development going on for a year (or 2) and then POW a new technology is introduced. One paradigm was sculpties (a very elegant hack). The next is Windlight. I wouldnt be surporised if we dont see much after windlight for a while, then something huge after that, such as a new framework. this stuff's too cutting-edge. Theres going to be bugs, and there will always be bugs.

To the comment directly above, no comment.. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2756https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3000This is the issues with the teleporting and attachments Some of what we witnessed tonight for those having the same issues was a load balancer. http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/01/09/inventory/--Tracy

I can't belive people can have the same problems continually for 2 years and despite 50,000 others on the grid not having them believe it's nothing to do with their connection or system

Sorry, but I have to agree with both sides of this argument. Indeed it is a constantly growing environment and this will create an opportunity for ever evolving problems.
Some of the other problems are simply unacceptable, long term, ongoing screw ups. There is no excuse for your hair appearing in your ass, which I too have experienced. Given the increadbly low quality of graphics, it is pretty sad that the list of acceptable videocards far exceeds those which are usable. Even worse is the fact that many on the "approved" list are hardly what I would call functional here. A little honestly goes a long way.
If Linden cannot announce a realistic baseline of equipment necessary for effective functionality, why should we believe them when we cannot teleport and are told..."It's not us, it's your ISP"? Especially when I can immediately watch a movie or play WoW with no lag?
This brings us to the argument about comparisons. "we are soooo different, you can't compare us", doesn't fly. Comparison is how human beings relate to the world. We have done so for the past several thousand years and will not stop for Linden. What has been done here IS evolutionary, but it also is similar to it's predecessors. Other MMORPG's have LONG had in game player made objects, albeit not on the same level, I am thinking specifically of EverQuest 1, Verants product bought up by Sony. People fled EQ in droves, not because it lacked content or challenge (WoW is FAR less complex or challenging), but because rather than fixing elementary, daily issues (think hair up your ass and teleporting) they focused on their financial model and attempted to "expand" out of problems. Adding MORE defective zones rather than fixing those they had. People finally got sick enough of lag and bugs and left. We hear a bit about Lindens efforts for the future, but are they oriented at CORE functionality? I don't need bells and whistles, I need to be able to walk without crashing into walls, appear above ground and not spend HOURS waiting for the system to come up.
Some are so happy to be here that if you pooped in their hat they would still wear it with a smile, others leave in disgust because LITERALLY from one day to the next, they can no longer log in or function. Read the boards. You see that message over and over. "I can't log", "I can't move", "I get this message.... " To say "It's your system because I am not having problems", utterly ignores reality. Do those who argue it's the players problem really think the daily list of "fixits" are just made up? Stop being turtles, because YOU are not having a problem at the moment does not mean thousands are not, many of them are those 50, 000 who are online despite the problems.
I love the concept, I am tolerant of the crummy graphics, I am very disappointed in the poor base functionality. It is an issue which if not confronted by Linden will send me elsewhere as soon as competition gets a product on board. I look forward to seeing what develops elsewhere, or Linden fixes here.

I think Court summed it up nicely. This is a huge system and if you have worked on any large e-business web sites you will appreciate the complexity of this undertaking. Not only is the content not static, but its being changed constantly by the users. There are obviously issues and problems that need to be addressed to improve the stability, but any site that can support as may active users as this one does is doing pretty well.
I was back on yesterday a half hour after the posted time the grid was to be available. I was on for a couple hours after that and had no issues at all with TP, logins, saving notecards or landmarks or rezzing. In fact with about 35,00 people on I was seeing bandwidth and FPS numbers that were among the highest I've seen yet. I was on this morning for an hour, bought six pieces of furniture from two different vendors after TPing around some more, rezzed and arranged the furniture without any problems. The bandwidth and FPS was still very high (40-50 FPS on an 8600 GT).
I just bought a computer that has the processor speed, memory capacity and graphics card horsepower to run the client efficiently and I think that makes a difference. I had to replace my Internet router early on because the old one couldn't 't handle the load and kept rebooting. I use a 2 mbs DSL connection.

SL is much more download intesivew and sensitive, you would not belive how many of the problems complained about suddenly manifest themselves simultaneously on my machine when I try to run SL on diallup. Your ISP _says_ they are giving you a 1500 or 6000 connection, what are your really getting at peakload times when it trims everyone to keep them online? My 20,000 is really at best 8000 but then again I've only lostconnection with this company twice in 3 years.

I've been on SL for about year now and honestly it does seem to be getting worst. Now im not technacly minded so i dont know the inner workings of SL but for me i have been stuck in sim for the last 3 day unable to TP out or be TP'd by friends and also unable to flyout or cross a border without being able disoconnected every single time now. im pertty sure it isnt a harware issue on my end. By no mean am I a complainer and I very much do appreciate what LL has done here, i love SL but we just need to vent sometimes and see if we can pushes them for more fixes. it is so frustrating not to be able to participate in world when we have to deal with these issues that come up for no apparent reason (at least how we non technical SL'rs see it). SL has been around for awhile you'd think some of these issue would have been resolved long ago. OK ok, was just venting.
