I know its under the min. sys. req., but i have a pretty decent laptop here - 2ghz processor, 1gb DDRRAM, 120Gb hard drive - and a ATI Radeon 7500m(32Mb). The 8000 and 8500's aren't better than the 7500 as far as i can tell, they simply have a higher max RAM capability... I've seen reports of people using 7500m's, but i can't get it to do anything at all - it crashes on load So, pretty much: 1) anyone at all have a tip on getting it to run on my system? 2) What makes the 7500m inferior? Did they change the chipset or something?

The 8000 series cards were designed from the start as performance cards. The 7000 series was never really good for gaming, even when they were new. They were budget cards which were meant for general use. Its been some time since I've read up on either, but the 7000s are based on a lesser core chip than the 8000s. I have owned both 7000 and 8000 series cards, and the 7000s do great DVD decoding like most ATI products. Also, with only 32mb of video ram, its at a major disadvantage when running SL. As for getting a 7500 to run SL on a laptop, I can't help you there. I really haven't a clue. Edit. The 7500m chip is a modified low power consumption chip. Unfortunately, that probably makes it even weaker than a desktop 7500.

A lot of 3D accelerators in laptops are feature-stripped so that they will use less power and space. Unfortunately that means that they may lack capabilities fundamental to running SL. I have an ATI Mobility GPU in my laptop, but it isn't supported. (It barely runs the original Unreal Tournament from the '90s.)
