Hello, I have not used the forums before, and I don't play the game very often. I do, however, make sure that I keep up-to-date with the latest versions of SL. With the latest release, however, it doesn't work on my comp like it used to. Whenever I boot up SL, all I get is a white empty window. I once had the game running in the background for 5 hours, and all I got was the white empty window. Clicking on it gives me the "Not Responding" error. Whenever I close it, then reboot it, I get the Crash logger, and the whole process repeats.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling... Nothing. I tried a Windows repair... Nothing. I tried Cool Viewer... Nothing. I tried a complete wipe of SL and reinstalling... Nothing. I even did a few System Restores... Nothing.

Here is my computer specs:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 2.20 GHz, Single core
OS: Windows XP Professional 32-bit Service Pack 3
Memory: 1.5 GB RAM, 103 GB HDD (Partition)
Video Card: ATi Radeon X1650 Pro

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you for listening.

Make sure a firewall isn't blocking your connection to SL.

This is probably a driver issue; recent ATi drivers for Windows don't seem to properly support vertex buffer objects. Any program I try in Windows with my Radeon that uses VBO does the same thing. The Linux drivers are not affected.

Open SL, but do not log in. Go to Edit > Preferences > Graphics > Custom > Hardware Settings and make sure the checkbox mentioning VBO or vertex buffer objects is not checked. Click OK until you're back to the login screen, and try logging in.

It wasn't blocking it. SL worked fine until I installed the newest version.

That's the problem. When I open SL, I get an empty white window. No SL logo. No menu. Nothing.

Do you even get a login screen? If you can get that far, see if my fix works and report back, please.

No, I don't get a login screen. I get the SL viewer window to show up, but where the login screen would be is completely white, with nothing on it. That empty white screen remains empty, even when I have the program running for hours.

Just a comment, just because a firewall wasn't blocking an earlier version of SL doesn't mean it won't start blocking SL if you install a new version of SL.

You can try different versions of video driver.

Did you delete the settings.xml file?

My firewall is not the problem, it's been set to accept SL, and the only times settings.xml got deleted was when I did the uninstalls.

How do I change the video driver version?
