I've been doing some work in Second Life for the university I work for but I haven't been able to log in for the past two days. Everytime I try, it won't get past the log in stage and a message comes up saying "Unable to connect to Second Life. Despite our best efforts something has gone wrong". I've checked the SL status page and there are no reported problems. Has anyone else had this happen recently or does anyone know how to fix this?

You need to post some machine specs as if it's a University machine it may be inadequate in the graphics and memory performance to run SL. A good games spec machine is needed to handle SL, a 2you wordprocessor just won't cut it.

It's a relatively new machine which has had no problems running SL until now. Has dual core processor and 1 gig of memory. Not too sure about the graphics card but, as I said, it ran fine before. When I try to log in, it attempts to log in a number of times before giving up and displaying the error message.

Are you a premium member? They capped non paid members a lil while ago. So if the grid is to what they feel is capacity they will estrict non pain residents now. And the weekends are the busiest times for logons. Especially with the SL5B going on.

Ah, ok. I'm a non paying member. Does the cap just apply to peak times etc? If so, what would be the best times (GMT) to get on?

That was just for like 30 minutes, several weeks ago. I doubt that's the problem. If you can't even connect, it might be network related. Can anybody else there connect to SL?

No one else is using Second Life. I've been assigned to this by myself. I tried running it on my other computer here but it just makes it freeze up. I'll try contacting the networks department tomorrow to see if they can help.

SL uses huge network resources, you may find it's been throttled by IT deptment.
