ATI Thread - Removed?

Recently, I reported some major issues using an ATI 9600 card in Second Life.

I posted my problems in a Thread, in this Forum, on that subject. Basically, I have a 'memory' error evey 60-90 minutes, and the ATI driver appears at fault.

Yesterday I noticed that this thread HAS BEEN REMOVED!!

I have since replaced this card with an NVidia 6800 based AGP card and all my issues have disappeared.

While I do have issues with ATI, I am quite concerned that SL chose to remove the thread.

There IS a problem with ATI cards in SL....an earlier computer also had similar symptioms, and the issue of not being able to enable AGP remains, although APPARENT performance does not seem to suffer much.

Comments FROM SL are sought...

I believe that some sort of failure happened that required the rolling back of both the grid and forums. Quite a number of posts were lost.

This happened yesterday, while hardware was being moved.

If by recently you mean yesterday, a lot of posts from yesterday disappeared.

The fact that ATI simply isn't well supported by SL (even though the webpage says it is) is a well known fact that's been rehashed on these forums multiple times. The fault lies with ATI's lack of skill in writing drivers.

What card do you have now, cruiser ??

I had an ASUS V9950 card (Nvidia 5900) which worked perfectly until it gave up life.

Tried an ATI9800 Pro, which was totally useless with SL, crashed totally every 2 minutes.

I now have an ASUS V9999 GE with Nvidia 6800, and I now have SEVERE texture problems on my AV.
Also, screenshots and the last position picture doesn't work, I only get some vertival lines instead. Otherwise it works ok with SL.
I have tried all possible settings including turning off FSA and other features. No luck. My clothes and skin are still in shreds.

I have latest drivers on everything. Also tried teh WHQL drivers and the older 61.21 drivers, but still the same problem.

Card seems to otherwise work fine with DOOM3, FarCry and others.

I bought a "BFG Tech' 6800 "OC" (nVidia 6800 based). Its running on an Asus A8V motherboard with an AMD 64 3500+ and 1GB DRAM.

No issues at all. In fact, this morning, after the Server 'Move', SL was running incredibly well. Doom III runs VERY well too.

Question. Have you updated the 'AGP' driver lately. A lot of display issues seem due to an older AGP driver. Just a thought.

Good Luck

It's possible you're having some minor power issues. The 6800 is a real glutton for current. What make and model of power supply do you have installed in your computer? What is the amperage of its +12V rail?

I have a 9600XT and having no issues at all.

Of course I had to make sure to turn off fastwrite, that causes issues galore with alot of games and speed is not noticed anyways.

But other then that is it perfect, no lock, no crash, all is fine.

ATI driver problems

FYI I have an ATI 8500 and a 9500 and it wasn't until I went back to old drivers from 2003 that I could play SL decently (and Doom3 for that matter). The shipped and/or newest ATI drivers actually *hurt* gameplay on my machines.

July's drivers for the 8500 / 9200 /9500 / 9600 /9700/9800 are pretty decent.

August's sucks.
