Avie hanging on an invisible nail

This problem has plagued me since it first happened Sunday night, and has happened every night since.

When I log on, my avie is hanging in the air, and I am unable to move in any direction..up, down, left, or right. When I select fly, I am stable, and when I deselect fly, my havie waves arms & hands in the air, but never drops down to earth. When I teleport, I am still hanging, but in a new location. I can sometimes sit down, but as soon as I stand up, I am back hanging on an invisible nail.

Last night it eased a bit, and I could move freely in the world, but when I went to a vehicle res area, and got on my scout fighter, I could only go forward and backwards, but no left, right, up, or down.

I am a n00b, and my first 4 visits to Second Life beginning 4/14/04 had none of these problems. This has been only since Sunday night.

My computer has a Pentium 4 at 2.4 ghz, 512Mb, and a Nvidia Ge Force video card with 32mb.

Also when I first came on, I received a message saying some chip driver needed updating. Something I never heard of before, and I decided to let it slide as I didn't know if I would join at that time.

Thanks for any help you might give!

What sort of net connection do you have? Are you using a firewall, NAT firewall, or router?

Correction on the video card. It's 64mb. I use Zone Alarm Pro, and I am on a 1mbps cable.

Make sure you have no scripted attachments (especially anti-bump scripts).

There's an option to detach all attachments if you right click your avatar.

Anti bump???

It just so happens that I was given an antibump ring on Sunday!

Thanks for the lead! :)

That happens to me a lot when I have a slow connection to the server. I'll teleport, but my avatar is "falling" for a while. Have to relog to correct it.

Eureka!
It was the damn anti-bump ring. I logged on, and sure enought...I was hanging in the air flailing away. I took the ring off, and everything was just peachy!

You'll want to reset the script in that object -- it sounds like it may have become stuck on your input somehow.
