Just last night I bought myself a new patch of land on an openspace which has been designed in such a way that the whole sim is split into 4 islands (each person had land all around)

There is a plus or minus 5m Terraforming limit, so you may tweak your land without going stupid and (potentially making a mess for others to have to view)

Personally I'd like full rights, but then I guess I benefit from others not doing stupid things, so I suppose everyone benefits from this limit.

Anyway. I'm going to have a chat with the guy who did the layout as I need some changes that are beyond my allowance (height wise)

But before I chat to him there are a few things I'd like to understand about Terraforming (only every havign done it on mainland before, and there also there is not much height change you can do.)

I understand form speaking to a openspace owner that you are limited to 4 textures (which I was told was a bit limiting) for the ground on an openspace.

So, do I assume someone (in Photoshop perhaps) paints these textures onto the ground from a birds eye view before they start adjusting the height?
Or would they adjust the height and THEN somehow paint the textures onto the surface?

I'm thinking, Rock (for high up) Grass to join the rock, Nicer grass with a little sand as you approach a beach and then full sand for the beach and underwater.

I did think it might be height related (which it does seem in a way) but I'm confused.

My land is mostly green with some sand, whilst next door at the same height on the same openspace it's mostly sand with a little grass.

If I push my grass below water lever then it's still grass.

But I'm sure I did raise my sand a little and some green started to appear on the top of the sandy lump as it rose.

So, I'm a bit puzzled and need someone to explain this to me.

I'd like him to make my beach a bit more sandy, so I assume that means re-texturing some of the surface of my area. (Is that a simple thing to do)?

I know changing textures on a object is just a few mouse clicks.

Also, when the designer makes the look of an area, do they LOCK it, as it were?

I was experimenting a little, last night then using the REVERT option to pull the land back up or down to how it was before I started. Is this what the REVERT function does and you can always use REVERT at any time on your land and this will always ptu it back to a LOCKED original land design?

Or (like the undo function of say a paint program) does there come a time when you can't undo/revert something you have changed?

If someone could run thru all this I would be very greatful.

Thanks.
