I noticed on the Jira there are often patches attached to fix the problem discussed. I especially became interested as Zen Linden posted a skirt patch for the dissapearing system skirt problem.
My Techie question is this.. Ok I have the patch file, now what do i do with it to use it? How do you use the patches??

The patches you will find in JIRA are made to go against the SL source code, so this kind of patch is something you only get to use if you intend to compile the viewer yourself. Operating systems (or their development kits) include patch utilities that can automatically edit the source code using those patch files as their commands. that particular patch is pretty simple, so the lines with + could as easily be added by hand.

Picked Krys thread up via Search as I have a JIRA Patch to add for my Space Navigator, my question too is how do I use it?
Exactly what do I do with it to get my downloaded viewer to use the correction? Viktoria appears to explain what they are and says its easy.

It's way beyond my technical capabilities but as I understand it, you download the source code for the viewer - the actual text of the program that makes SL work - and edit it with the extra or changed lines from the patch, either by hand or using a patch utility. It's a similar process to editing an LSL script inworld, but at a much higher level than most scripts. Then you recompile your code (just as LSL recompiles when you save a script) and then you are hopefully ready to run in the normal way.

Thanks Wulfric, gosh, I not even as good as you! Looks an extremely good Dummies guide needed, LOL. Looks like I'm stuck. I just an ordinary user of SL and computer wise, well I can switch on and off.
