Problems with Greenery

I tried to plant some greenery on my flat property. After placing a tree, I moved it to the opposite end of my property, and played a little bit with the size option, just to see if it was possible to edit tree size. After returning it the shape it was to begin with, I exited the edit mode and it vanished, without re-embursing me for the cost of the item. I had a similar problem with the second greenery command, which I assume is either grass or bushes. The item created by the second command did not appear at all. I lost about $40 on this before I gave up. I took a gander about, to see if I had accidently moved it somewhere (up into the air, into the ground), but I do not see any of the items I placed. Anyone else have this problem? Did I do something wrong when placing the items?
