Hi Linden.
I have recently heard about Second life and installed it. Everything takes a while to load (which is not a problem) but my problem comes when i want to move my avitar. I van turn around with no problem but as soon as i want to go somewhere the problem begins.
When i select the move button, the avitar stands still for a minute or two and then suddenly moves in the direction that I wanted to go. Once it stopped it is the same old story.
I have turned down the graphics and all the other stuff i can think off. Like I mentioned, everything else in the game works 100%. It's just if I want to go forwards or backwards that this happens. It's really frustrating.
Please help me to play the game end enjoy it as it was meant to be played and enjoyed.
Regards Ghost

Lindens don't really read this forum. Or if they do, they rarely respond here. A support ticket is usually the best way to get their attention. Is the area you're in really crowded? If so, it could just be that that region is overloaded and slow to respond when you try to move. Try going here and seeing if you have the same problem: http://slurl.com/secondlife/blackwater/

What you describe is what we call "lag", it can be caused by a lot of factors like you graphics card, your cpu, the amount and kind of memory, your internet connection, the amount of avatars in the sim, ping time between you and the sim you connect to etc. etc. more reading at: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Help:LagHave a nice SL!

Since you can turn in place ok, the problem probably is not CPU/memory/graphics. I'd suspect either that the sim is very laggy (which can happen even without lots of people there) or that the internet connection between you and the sim is not stable.
I would try going to blackwater (or anywhere, really) with the SLURL above to rule out that the sim is having problems.
You can also do Help -> About Second Life and look for the sim IP address. Open up a DOS window and do "ping -t <address>" where <address> is the sim IP. Let that run for a minute while you're in SL trying to move then press ctrl-c to stop the ping and post the last few lines here..
Also in Help -> About Second Life is a 'packet loss' number. What's it say for you?
Also, are you using the keyboard to move? If not, maybe try using that.. Press ESC a couple times then press the up arrow to move forward..
