Can't hear music in SL

I have MSN spysweeper, maybe that has something to do with it?
Nothing else is running when I have SL loaded.
I don't know if I have all the system requirements, because I'm not very good with computers...
I can hear the avatar guestures (like the Whoohoo! sound)
Even in a place like a club where everyone else can hear the music, I can't and the music note icon won't light up.
Please help me!

I think I have version 5 or 6.
