directx problems

Here's the issue: directx doesn't work with the new video card in my system (the tests in dxdiag.exe fail; games which require directx will not run; SL crashes immediately upon execution). There isn't anything physically wrong with the card -- we tested it in hubby's system and directx tests passed with flying colors there. There isn't anything physically wrong with the AGP slot on my motherboard -- directx works fine with my old video card in the system. I've tried three different versions of directx (8.1, 9.0 and 9.0a -- currently back on 8.1) and I've tried three different versions of the nvidia drivers (currently using 41.09). I followed the proper procedure each time I switched mvidia drivers -- completely remove whatever version was currently installed, reboot, install new/other version. I've also upgraded my via drivers per Doug's recommendation, but still no directx joy.

So.... any ideas (while I still have some hair left on my head)?

Still sounds like motherboard issue. What motherboard do you have exactly?
