Hello. I was wondering if it's possible to send a RL IM (such as to AOL Messenger) from SL. Is it possible to write a script that will do that?

Thanks!

The simple answer is "no".

Slightly less simple is "Maybe, but it would not be easy."

I think the SLim beta is still going on... it's a special LL-approved IM client for Second Life. Here's the BETA page:

SLIM doesn't work though the in-world instant message system, it goes around it, and has a number of problems as a result.

It IS possible to script an object in world to communicate IM to email... But SL offers that already for offlines.

I just use SL-Messenger.

http://sl-messenger.com/

Unless they have somehow changed and no longer offer it for download... it works just like an Instant Messenger program, like AoL or ICQ, and sends instant IM's direct to anyone online on your Friends List, and they can respond direct back to you in real time as though you were online.

Upon loading it asks for a registratino code fro their Forums, but I just hit "cancel" and then it lets me log on. I am on it right now actually...

I have heard, that it does this by physically logging your Avatar into the World and leaves it just standing there in place. But i have not yet been able to confirm that SL-Messenger actually does this.

I have however, seen people whom have used similar communication tools that do log their AV's into the world like that.

So, if you're involved in one of those Dark Roleplay Sims that uses a Combat Meter that gives you Experience Points, make sure you're meter is removed or the Sim Admins will ban you for Exp Camping!
