Whats the support status of GTX 295 based cards? I can't seem to find anything yea or nay on it. SL was working with the Asus drivers, but, after installing the WHQL drivers released by Nvidia it no longer works (though some other direct x apps are working now). Asus recommends the NVIDIA drivers .. the asus drivers were/are not WHQL and I was getting "Second Life Does Not Recognize This Graphics Card" .. but it worked. I've tried with the release candidate viewer and the SLim compatible viewer and it just hangs with the following message:

I just built a system with the following specs and could be wasting my time removing and reinstalling different drivers trying to get it running if it's not supported:

Asus P6T Delux MB
Asus GTX 295 (ENGTX295)
Windows Vista 64
6 GB corsair
Intel i7

I haven't overclocked anything (yet) and am using default settings.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry I can't help directly, but am successfully running SL on almost exactly the same hardware, except the graphic card is an EVGA 285: Software is Vista 64 Ultimate, latest Nvidia 182.06 64 bit drivers, MB has bios that came in the box (don't know rev), latest SL client. I also had the 'not recognized' message, but no in world performance issues (actually it looks spectacular!).

So perhaps not a fundamental problem with the system. Try the latest drivers from Nvidia? Hope this helps, Hiro

GTX295 Informal Resolution -- Don't Use Aero
03-13-2009 23:49
Thanks Hiro.

Officially, Second Life doesn't support sli and the GTX295 series is two graphics cards in sli mode sandwiched onto a single board. Yet there are those of us like Hero and myself using the card. Some Lindens have blogged about using sli systems with Second Life.

In my case I found sketchy performance SL Performance with GTX295 card trying all kinds of settings to only temporary avail. No matter what I tried, such as reinstalling drivers, updating with the latest non-beta drivers from NVIDIA, changing resolutions in SL, setting NVIDIA control panel settings to run Second Life in single GPU and single display performance modes, lowering performance settings, reinstall the second life viewer, etc. -- SL would run for a few hours and crash or fail to show any window content on the next restart.

What finally worked for me (GTX295 i7 6gb Vista 64) was simply changing the Color Scheme from Windows Aero to Windows Vista Basic (Control Panel | Personalization | Change the Color Scheme). With NVIDIA control panel application settings defaults and SL default settings the card runs fine .. as long as your not using the Aero color scheme. Hopefully this is a temporary solution or there is a better fix?

Fixed!!!

Good news!
New drivers from nVidia (195.62) has fixed the problem for me.
With my GTX295, I can now keep the Aero interface on... as it used to be with my old nVidia card.
