What kind of internet service?

What brand and model of computer?

What kind of video card or onboard graphics?

What version video driver?

How much main memory?

How much video memory?

Is there a network involved? If so, wired or wireless?

Is it the very first time you tried SL or has it worked any at all before this try?

What kind of anti-virus do you have?

The more information you provide about your computer system and the situation the better the chance of finding a solution.

On XP, you can right click your desktop and get an option to get to your display information, or go to the control panel and there is a display option . I think that will work in Vista too but I don't actually know that.

You should be able to get some info at the SL login screen, before you login, by using the Help menu, and taking the About Second Life option. I think the driver info is labeled OpenGl there.

You might need to u p date your drivers f r o m the Aspire website. It is a laptop, right?

You might need to turn off UAC, or set up AVG to leave Second Life alone.

It could just be that Second Life itself is having troubles, that's certainly not uncommon.

You might need to adjust some port settings in your wireless router.

(Note the extra spaces in two words are a way around a problem the forum has with certain words that resemble MySQL commands.)

Doesn't SL have some issue with the security stuff from Acer? Sounds familiar..

edit: found it at http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7264
From: VWR-7264
Viewer crash (no error message) when attempting ANY asset upload

Seems to be related to uploads crashing SL but there may be other problems lurking there, too. There's a bunch of other issues listed as duplicates - I think I've seen a patch from Acer listed in there somewhere.. Dig around some.

I remember reading about that Acer situation. The solution to the problem in that jira issue is to uninstall the edatasecurity program.

That might not be the problem here, but certainly if edatasecurity can be deactivated that would be worth a try.
