Hi All, Im in Australia, and my ping is (and always is) around 400 on secondlife! , and the delay for when I press the up arrow to move is about 3 or 4 seconds! I realise im far from the servers but Ping 400 is a bit harsh isnt it? Im on a 256/64 ADSL Connection ( www.iinet.net.au) My CPU is an Athlon 2600+ XP Windows XP Home 512 MB RAM I really like Second Life but dont want to pay if I keep getting the delay! So any comments? Thanks!

Well, your connection sucks mate. You need a beefier pipe to play SL well. The default network settings assume your connection is capable of a sustained 300kbps throughput. I myself am a european, who usually gets 250-500ms pings. I sometimes get lag but not so often that it interferes with the game. My DSL is twice as fat as yours though, and I'm already thinking of upgrading it to 1Mbit.

Your connection's capacity doesn't sound very high. You should make sure your bandwidth usage is turned down in Edit > Preferences > Network > Bandwidth.
Also, your Draw Distance can affect how much data your client tries do download. Try turning it down to the minimum, 64m, and seeing if that helps. (You can find it in Preferences > Options.)
