Ok i am back
quicktime resolved me being able to play the game yesterday after messing with drivers and ati etc also before hand which did not help.
Now i log on this morning and my display has lines going down it all the way in 4 or more groupings at a time. there on top of what is displayed (media/programme) i think this is something to do with ATI and i had same problem before but unsure now how i resolved it.
Even smart restore to even before installing the game and messing with ati did not resolve it nither did rolling back grapchics card driver and which now it wont update to tyhe new version after.
Since one of the ideas ppl suggested in my last question was regarding ati advanced ai i had to install a full version as it seemed i had not teh control centre part. now i know why, i think i deleted it before as it messes with my monitor or display. rather than again trying to get rid of the ati all togather which might pose more problems.
does anyone have a better solution?
if i have spelling mistakes i apologies but i can not see each letter properly now and its annoying me!
all this for second life lol
thanks in advance

Try this: From: Second Life Wiki
1. Run Second Life from your desktop. You don't have to log in. 2. Open Edit menu > Preferences... 3. Click on the Graphics tab. 4. Click on the button for Hardware Options. Now, look for the fourth option, Enable VBO: Set this to be UNchecked. This means it is turned off. (from http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Turn_off_WindLight_rendering)

thanks Corrupted video driver, dying video card, bad memory stick, damaged OS file..........one, all or none of the above. The first thing I would investigate is the video driver. Download the latest, save it to your hard drive then uninstall your present one. When Windows boots back up it will see your graphics card as new hardware and want to install a driver for it.........CLOSE THAT BOX (do not let Windows search for or install a driver). Install manually the driver you downloaded from the manufacturers website.......do the required reboot to get the driver installation complete. Try SL again..........or any other program showing the problem you have.

ok peggy i will do this, but just so you know i have attempted to roll back drivers and install new ones over ezisting drivers and have disabled them with same effects.
now problem is that my 1 video card on driver management tool comes up 2 times, second say secondary with different property tabs. but i know its the same driver as i went inside the pc last night and cleaned it and made sure all was ok. lots of dust but now clean quieter.
logged on this morning and it was find for about 2 minutes then i got lines all down the display again.
will do the complete uninstall of driver and reinstall later. if that shoulld not work what next?
its worth mentioning that all this started when i had a newest driver actually, got it when i went for complete ccc suite. but rolled back and cant find the newest one any more. Also when i now look for the most updated driver it keeps given me the full 72mb catalyst suite with driver which i already downloaded. is there driver only anywhere for a radion 9800 pro?
thanks peggy

Do you have a Windows restore point from just before the problem happened?

Veritable I did yes and tried that twice lol on 2 dates and still the same thing. i am now back to the most recent. its worth noting that when i updated to the full ati CCC suite it was fine after doing the vob and sorting out quicktime for the rest of monday. but when turning pc on next day then straight away i had the problem. its even there from first powering up. thanks
