What computer do you have? How much RAM? You said you have Vista 2000.......I've never heard of that operatiing system. Maybe you meant Vista or XP or NT 2000? (since you specifically spelled out Vista I think that's what you meant). What type of graphics do you have in your computer? We need some information to even offer any help to you.

It sounds like you've been told by the people who sold you the computer that you cannot upgrade without changing your motherboard. That's not good because SL requires a little muscle in your graphics and processor. It appears you don't have it right now with your crashing on log in attempts.

But tell us something about your computer so maybe someone will be able to help.

if it is a laptop and made in the year 2000 its a 99.999% chance the video card is un supported

sl requires at least a second generation 256bit video card, i bought my first generation 256 bit video card in the same year for the discount price of 399$ (nvidia geforce ddr with 64 megs of ram, and it wont run sl, afaik havent tried with the new clients, it used to in 2004 with my 1 week trial account)

if your lucky it has a 128 bit video card, but that was a "bitchin expensive" laptop in that day

just out of interest flip it over and post the model number please

Would you mind explaining "second generation 256bit video card"? Are you referring to GPU memory bus width?

no i mean 256 bit gpu

back in the day there were video cards with 32 bit, 64 bit and 128 bit gpu's, the first consumer model with a 256 bit gpu was the nvidia geforce, the next generation after that was named the nvidia geforce 2 which is SL's minimum requirement (ati caught up somewhere in there)

heres an 1999 article

heres nvidias history page

But since the basic requirements are met with your card (if I read correctly) I would suggest to install latest drivers and retry.
Even some "unsupported" graphic cards work that way.
