This just happened after I built a new system. At first I thought it was the onboard sound causing this. So I bought a Soundblaster X-Fi card, which I was going to do anyways. I still get this weird static-y sound. Second Life is the only place I hear it. All other games, movies, etc, run just fine. Any clues????? Link to the Sound: http://www.angelfire.com/planet/gimptutorial/BadSoundFX_SL.wavI removed the original drivers for the onboard audio, turned off the onboard audio in the BIOS. Then installed the X-Fi card and its drivers.

Make sure to go to Creative and DL the Drivers meant for that exact model card and th Operating system you are using. Do not rely on any drivers that may have come for that card originally. If you are using Vista.. also get the OpenAL Audio Drivers that Creative has for that OS and install it as well. You have some sound interpolation issues with SL and your card and it is causing that static noise. Doing these things should help.

Alrighty. Installed the latest drivers for Windows XP Pro, and..... still the same.
I'll probably uninstall the sound card & drivers & try it again.
