Hello, my SL keeps crashing just after the "detecting hardware" shows, BEFORE the client itself starts. It gives a few small messages as usual but then it never shows up. I've reinstalled several times, I reformated my computer today and it worked perfectly before the reformat. It mentioned something about my graphics card earlier before the just-crashing scenario, but obviously my graphics card works just as it should do, since I ran SL earlier today. I've reinstalled several times, I've waited, I've rebooted. Nothing works.
I run on XP, I have a ATI Radeon 9600 (old, but still runs.) and 2gb RAM. Everything should work perfectly. Anyone have a solution?

what drivers did you use for your video card, ie
the ones that came with the card, on a 4 year old cd or (bleh) the microsoft ones that come tru windows update (gawd) or the latest and greatest from ati's driver site (yay)

I haven't upgraded the drivers. I -can't- upgrade the drivers. My screen goes 8-bit colours and tells me the drivers are too old. But I didn't install any drivers before the reformat, and it worked just fine even then.
Might be worth mentioning that the RC client doesn't work either.

well i dont know what issues your having, the latest and greatest on ati's website fully support the 9600 (and lower i have a 9250 and a pci 9600 using them just fine) http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/radeonx-xpand again where did you get these drivers, i can tell you now the ones that windows installs doesnt do much more than display your desktop, they have little to no 3d functionality

The drivers were downloaded straight from ATI's website, the same site as you just linked, and they didn't work at all.

Why did you reformat your hard drive?
What service pack are you on?
You say the drivers from the ATI site didn't work at all. What do you mean? Were you able to install them?
What version is showing for video driver?

I just wanted to 'restart the system' so to say. Had alot of junk, so decided to give it a fresh boot.
SP2.
I can install them, it reboots the computer, when I'm back in windows, there's the old 256-color graphics and a warning sign telling me that the driver is too old and made on another windows version.
Er. Don't know where to check that.
