Hello, haven`t been here in a long time, just thought I`d drop in and say hi.
I`ve downloaded the latest edition of SL yesterday and I must say the graphics are excellent! The water is extremely realistic, and lighting is much more smooth.
Unfortunately, it seems that every minute I spend in SL, my disk space decreases by 0.01 gigabytes (1 kilobyte). I have a low amount of disk space, and yet I haven`t installed any new programs, or have added any new files.
Strangely, SL is installed on my secondary hard drive, E: but using SL will consume disk space on my main hard drive. What does it all mean?
Thanks in advance.

that would most likely be your cache getting filled with the textures of things you see, the soundfiles of things you hear, and so on. Some facts about the cache:
1. the default location on windows xp is in %APPDATA%\SecondLife\cache, on vista it usually points to c:\User\(name of your windows user)\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\cache
2. the cache size has an upper limit, set in preferences/network
3. the location of the cache can be changed, also in preferences/network
4. a bigger cache is not necessarily a good idea since the cache gets corrupted easily. I personally found that with an empty cache things around me actually rez much faster than with a full cache...

Thanks for the information about the cache. Another thing I noticed is that, when I close SL, I seem to gain back the lost kilobytes. Using SL consumed 9 kilobytes of disk space last time I checked, then I saw it go back up again. Does SL clear the cache automatically when you exit the game?

kilobytes????
with todays harddisks and memory sizes, a change in the order of magnitude of 10 kilobytes would be very hard to notice... the average cache size is 250-500 MEGAbyte, the average memory usage of the SL client is around "all the memory you have, and then some"... so how do you even NOTICE a change that is that small?

That sounds like you're paging.. How much memory do you have installed?
