Sometimes right after I start up, when I move, when I adjust appearance, etc. In other words any where at anytime. I have a new computer and a high speed cable connection. I don't have any problems with any other programs.

Any help?

@Tammy

Please post the configuration from your Help / About output. What would also be helpful is the last lines of your secondlife.log file from the time it crashed (it's under Application Data, best to search for it).

I guess you use an ATI card ;).

No can fixy plobrem without yoo list yer system specs! :D

Seriously, just saying "new computer" is meaningless. I can go to Best Buy right now and take my pick of a couple dozen brand new pieces of crap that wouldn't be able to run SL stably if the world depended on it. Meanwhile I'm using a 2-year old machine that runs it fantastically well because that's specifically what I built it to do. New doesn't necessarily mean good. They made junk 10 years ago, and they still make junk now.

What are your exact specs?

Exactly the same thing as me.
And i've narrowed it down to having Vista as the problem.
Does anyone know of a 'fix', that can help ?
Apart from getting rid of Vista, that is.

Bingo. Integrated graphics are always horrible, and Intel's are the absolute worst of the worst. You need a discrete graphics card for SL. Integrated graphics will always be problematic. They should be avoided at all costs.

The 945 chipset is listed on the minimum specs page for SL, but it really shouldn't be. A lot of people learn that the hard way.

If you go into your SL preferences, disable all optional features, and set every slider to minimum, it MIGHT work. If it does, you can then try increasing things very slowly, and see what happens.

Really, though, you should invest in a real graphics card. If your computer is a desktop, you can get a decent card for very little money. A GeForce 8600GT goes for as little as $75 these days. Or if you want something not just decent but good, GeForce 9800's start around $115.

If you're on a laptop, you're probably SOL. Laptop graphics are almost always non-upgradeable. The only way to replace the graphics card is to replace the whole machine. If the machine is new enough to be returnable, I'd say go ahead and return it. Replace it with something better. Laptops with decent discrete graphics cards start around $800.

Thanks...so far so good on the sliders being down. Everything takes forever but at least it's working. And yeah I have a laptop...uggg. Oh well.

Thanks for all the help!
