Everything rezzing incredibly slow

Whenever I go to any sim, everything rezzes really slowly. It starts with everything being gray colored, then very, very slowly everything starts to rez. Avatars are ALWAYS last and they don't always rez. I've been in one sim (private sim) for over 20 minutes and the avatars still have failed to load.

Looking at something gives it a kickstart and rezzes it faster, but this is annoying and I would love for it to be fixed.

Any suggestions?

This is my trick:

I have the Advanced menu activated which is ctrl+alt+d

In that menu go to rendering.

in types, uncheck particles, clouds
in world, uncheck fog

It might make skys look boring, i have to reactivate clouds when i go to the midnight dreams sim, or i dont see the space scene im flying through, but for most things it speeds up ressing considerably.

I dont always see other peoples aves in colour but my graphics card is only just minimum spec so its to be expected.

It's best to check the forums before posting, there was another thread with the exact same subject line posted the same day as you. Your connection speed and cache size are the biggest factors. All objects have to be downloaded from the grid, it's not like other games where everything is precached on your drive before you even start the program.

Rather than disabling particles and losing that feature entirely (since it is occasionally useful), it's best to go to a spammy area and wait until someone lets off a particularly intense particle effect, then turn max particles down to an acceptable level that isn't going to adversely affect performance.

Fog isn't a bad thing, in fact, increasing the fog can reduce client lag in some cases (particularly low-end GPUs, using fog to further limit draw distance). Doing so can also help blend short draw distances into the horizon. If your lag meter is saying that you have a lot of client lag and you've tried everything else, turning up the fog factor will probably help.

All in all, you'll probably see bigger differences from turning down the render detail on flexis, tress and avatars, and setting the post process quality to low, and disabling shaders and shiny.
