TiMac Won't Work

Hi,

I signed up a few hours ago and just can't seem to get this to work. I called tech support but they didn't have anything that helped.

What happens is that the program loads and starts to work until it gets to the "Connecting To Region" part. The progress bar goes 1/2 way across and then stays there forever.

I have the latest OSX installed and while trying to make this work tried the following:
-I am now directly connected to the DSL modem (unhooked airport)
-I dissabled all firewall protections.
-Quit all programs but Finder.
-Rebooted

Tech support told me I met the specs but I am starting to wonder if my laptops video card is up to snuff.

I have a 1ghz G4 15" titanium powerbook
512mb memory

Anyone out there running on one of these?

Any other suggestions before I give up?

Thanks,

Falkor

hmmm.... if you have a titanium and not an aluminum, it could be an older graphics card issue... I think ;) (not an excpert here).

also, i know you said you had the correct OS version, but double check that you have 10.3.5 - VERY NECESSARY, couldnt get it to work on 10.3.4

i would double check the graphics card specs in your system profiler.

good luck!

I'm on a TiBook

Falkor, I use an older TiBook than yours & it actually works decently (even tho it doesn't meet the LL minimum recommended specs.) It's a 667MHz G4, 512MB RAM, with only 16MB VRAM. I normally have all the rendering prefs "off" or at the minimum settings. However, if I'm on an unpopulated sim, I can get away with turning them "on" & be ok. In populated sims, even with all prefs "off" things to tend to get a bit choppy, but I hear many others complain about the same thing so I don't feel so left out. :D

That being said, LL has been recently releasing updated versions of the app, & I have been experiencing some new problems that seem to be universal among all users. LL appears to be working hard to get the bugs out, so keep checking back. ;)

It turns out that this was some kind of a LL server issue despite the fact that they kept trying to blame my ISP and computer set up.

I had just made up my account and SL was trying to send me to orientation island which wasn't working right. I saw on another thread that I should try to go somewhere else so I cut and pasted a direct link into explorer that sent me to another plot of land and it worked instantly.

The TiMac is running it okay but I can tell that if I get hooked on SL I am going to want something faster...

Thanks to those who tried to help out!

it might help to ...

I'm running a Powerbook 15" not a TI but I find that I can cure some buggy issues that come up during play by totally deleting

~/library/application support/secondlife

it means I have to re-enter all the prefs each time i restart the game after deleting that folder, but I've found it will force-fix a streaming audio issue I have. I've tried deleting only some of the contents of that directory, and even resetting "settings.ini" but for some reason the (audio) bugs persist unless the entire directory is deleted.

anyway it's something that works for me, so I thought I'd pass it on
