As much money as i put in game i am getting tired of spending most of that time fighting to stay logged in. I get on my laptop and could stay on for 30 or so minutes if i am lucky but i cannot stay logged in at the desktop and that has more ram. Both comps are vista 64bit. I get booted out, or when i log in I am just a ball of white light or i try to tp and my comp locks up....What is going on...who can play this game when all their time is spent fighting to get on....its not even enjoyable...

As you probably realize, 30 minutes is not really a long time, so I wouldn't exactly say your laptop is doing all that well, even if it's doing better than your desktop. I don't want to make you feel bad, but just so you know, it's pretty rare that I ever end up disconnected, and I often use SL 8-10 hours in a stretch. With that in mind, I don't think it's really fair to say that SL itself is what causes connection issues. How well your computer, router, modem, and ISP are behaving in response to it may be another story.
If one computer can stay logged in and the other can't, my guess is it's a networking problem. What kind of network card is in the desktop? How recent are its drivers? How's it configured? Any special features enabled, such as FirstPacket?
How about your router? Have you tried resetting it?
Is the connection wired or wireless? If it's wired, maybe you've got a bad cable. If it's wireless, are you using any compression technology, such as SpeedBooster? Any potential sources of RF interference nearby, such as a microwave oven or cordless phone?
It's also possible (less likely, but possible) that other non-network-related issues may be in play. For example, my graphics driver on my desktop glitched on me this afternoon, causing SL to crash twice within just a few minutes. After rebooting, it's been fine for several hours now, behaving normally.
I'm not saying it's necessarily your graphics driver that's the problem (you'd probably know it if it were); I'm just pointing out that keeping things running is a bit like maintaining a house of cards. Pull any one out, and lots of others can come down along with it. The symptoms don't always immediately reflect the cause in any obvious way. If you really want to get down to it, the problem could be anything from a bad driver to a faulty piece of hardware to too much dust inside the machine to a connector in need of reseating to just about anything else you could think of. These things aren't always simple to track down.

I am running on a cable router, The desk is hooked up directly but laptop is on wifi. Laptop runs better than the desk. The desk and lap both have vista 64 bit. The desk has 5gb ram and the lap is 3gb of ram. I reset the router and even got a new one and diff model and nothing changed. I checked the pings and its the game not my connection. I dont know how to check my graphics card. All I know is that it is Nividia. I loaded and unloaded several times to see if the game installed wrong nothing changes. Clear my cache, run-cmd my Sl...change my display and performance. Every suggestion on this forum i did and I still cannot play this without pulling my hair after a few minutes of being booted out. My comps are both brand new. Less than 3 weeks old. So I am assuming my drivers are updated.

I have noticed that one of my PCs 'wears out' pretty quickly when I use it to log into SL. The only major difference between that machine and my regular one is that it runs an ATI graphics card. I often get weird polygon shapes sweeping around the screen just before it seizes up altogether. SL just disappears - no freezing, no crashing, just 'phut!' like it wasn't opened in the first place. I also notice minor differences such as it doesn't handle things like 'Glow' at all. My regular machine has an nVIDIA card and that works just fine and dandy.

Uncheck Enable VBO in the advanced settings for the graphics. Check the Custom box in the graphics settings tab of the preferences and you'll see the Advanced button at the bottom of the tab. I used to get just this with an nvidia card some time back.

When I purchased parts for a new PC I had to update the video drivers for my 260gtx card, they were 3 months out of date on the CD the card shipped with.
Even if a PC is shiny and new out of the box there's always something to update, either the OS or device drivers, its not safe to assume its up to date out of the box.
