SL starts without issues but when i try to connect, SL simply quits at the intitializing world step.

im not getting any error messages nor is there a problem with the graphics card as ive already tried multiple ones...both, nvidia(geforce ti 4600) and ati(radeon 9600 pro)....they work fine in other games

im using a dsl line with 3Mb/s downstream and 512 Kb/s upstream wich is working fine too

the pc im using is:
AMD 64 3800+ (socket 939)
corsair xms twin pc3200 xl pro
asus av8 deluxe with wifi motherboard
windows xp sp2

i dont know whats making sl quit....any ideas?

So the program just stops running, or it returns to the login screen? If it's the former, you're sure you have the latest video, motherboard chipset and audio drivers, right?

I had the same problem about a week ago,SL would crash on start up with no error message. After updating and rolling back video drivers and such,I did a reinstall of SL and the problem was fixed. If you havent got this fixed by now try it.

sl stops running
its the the first time ive installed it on this pc.the drivers are only the newest....to roll back id have to download the old ones first.

ive reinstalled SL three times by now...no change.

I think its either an issue with the 64-bit structure or SP 2....but i wouldnt put my hand in the fire for either ;)

Tokoyami:

Are you running a firewall, including the one in SP 2? If you are you may have to open some ports to allow Second Life to connect.

The ports that need to be opened are 12020 - 13050. If that range seems to be large, you can limit it to 12020 - 12050 and 13000 - 13050.

The best solution is to allow full connections to the entire Second Life server farm. Each server has its own IP address, and Second Life owns the entire 69.25.104.*, 69.25.105.*, 66.150.244.* and 66.150.245.* IP ranges in order to add more servers in the future, so your best bet is opening 66.25.104.0- 66.25.104.255 and 66.150.244.0 - 66.150.245.255 for future compatibility.

So you're sure you're running the latest motherboard drivers too? You aren't just running what installed when you put Windows on, are you?

Also, when you reinstalled SL, did you actually UNINSTALL it first?

*sigh*....unfortunately i did uninstall it first and i downloaded the newest drivers from the approprate sites....not just those that came with the stuff.....

the only good news is that ive got an asus x800 xt platinum edition now.....but sl still isnt running...even after the update wich i could download....but it crashes at exactly the same place as before
