Using the built in Movie recorder works well but no-matter what codec I use the resulting output file plays way to fast or too something-off. Is there any other apps that do a better job and maybe record sound as well?
Ok, I've got the FPS looking right, I think. I just reset all the encoder settings... seems to work great even recording an 800x600 window... but no one is around so...

I never really looked into making SL movies much. I have made a couple of short test runs that turned out okay, but it had the UI in the screen and all, not the best quality. And, it seems it quits working on second attempts and such. I know there are some really great SL movies out there, maybe this thread will earn us a good turtorial.

FRAPS is absolutely perfect. I use it for all my SL movies. You gotta pay about $30 for it, but it's worth every penny.
FRAPS records SOUND, and it records video in such a way that it plays back at the same framerate at which it was recorded, even though in SL that changes constantly. It also has an optional half-size mode to save disk space. (It records uncompressed video ONLY, so you will need a lot of space. The advantage is that it is a lot quicker that way.)
