Can't connect to Second Life...
07-23-2003 09:29
I'll comment here on two points:
1: I'm receiving this message now - and can't get past it - since my upgrade to 1.0.3; right now I am unable to connect to SL - though if I reinstall an earlier version I can connect long enough to determine that the "new version" is available. Perhaps something to do with the protocol change I thought I read in the message about the v1.0.3 version? Can anyone confirm this?
2: I "ALWAYS" receive this message the first time that I connect after a new version is installed, from my first install in beta thru til now; however, during my initial connect I receive a warning message from Norton Personal Firewall, asking me to OK the application, and after I do so and the initial connection fails and I subsequently reconnect, it's always been fine. Until yesterday. I suspect NPFW is involved here but not completely sure.
*Update 07/24/2003: I can get connected by disabling Norton Personal Firewall before I connect, and leaving it disabled while I run SL. THIS IS A BEHAVIOR CHANGE introduced with v1.0.3, to my observation; previously, I did not need to disable NPFW to run SL.
