not for the first time sl has ate my items, i try picking them up and poof they are no more ( yes ive dont the clear cache relog thing many many many times ) my items are just totally gone, and linden labs have very politely told me im screwwed, having lost a granf total of over a lil over 15 000 lindens im getting exceedingly pissed. many others experianced this? wtf can i do? so far ive gotten nowhere with LL. this cant be right can it? im told linden labs basically has a get out of jail free card for their mistakes while people have to take the loses with no recourse. like many other players i can ill afford to lose that kind of cash. not really expecting to get any answers here but would like to know if anyone else has suffered this.

I can deal with the monetary loss, its the time loss that gets me. Even with saving periodically, I had several occasions today where I would have a script just how I wanted it, only so I couldn't save it. When I came back, poof. Thankfully I had a few copies in the trash of previous versions or I would have been totally screwed. Not only that, but this also caused a script to malfunction causing me to look at a script that wasn't really broken... while a customer was waiting. So, not only did I lose the money with the time wasted, I probably lost a customer who was not impressed when my script was failing in front of him. Not a good day.

With that being said, even with these problems it is still the best one around. I would much rather be able to offer to help LL than to simply complain. If there was data we could provide them to help them solve this problem I think it would go a long way to getting some of this stuff fixed. My hope is that they read this and not just dismiss this as 'griping'. People want to make this better, just tell us what to do.

well linden politely says " YOU'RE BONED !"

well seems like a lot of people are suffering , live help hung up on me, and after all the bug reports and emails still nothing cept a polite mail saying " it aint our problem, so quit bugging us" , oh and since the change to the TOS recently they are nicely covered against taking responsibility for their own screw ups !! what the hell are we supposed to do ? keep dumping cash into linden labs pockets? i know i cant leave sl simply because of the people in there, but surely LL should take responsibility when their servers fuck up !! I urge anyone who has lost to email linden labs , our only recourse is to make them realise how bad this is getting. we may be tied to sl by freinds and loved ones but i dont see why we should put up with hard earned money being lost. i can accept the loss sure, but i want to know its NEVER going to happen again !
(( quick note to any linden whos reading this, please tell your bosses i/we plan to nag untill ears bleed! we are tired of losing our cash ! ))

It's happened before, multiple times. It's happening now. And it will happen again, and again, and again, ...

Either you'll have to accept that: 1. The asset and sim servers have always been (under) a burden (for everyone, developers included). 2. As SL continues to push for rapid growth its capability to handle the growth will always play catch-up (my personal opinion) -- and rarely/never be capable of handling the current load (as has been proven time and time again).

Lindens, imho, will never accept responsibility for "things beyond their control" -- even if all things could be under their control, or might be in the future. From the business standpoint it would be shooting yourself in the foot, so I personally don't blame them -- but neither do I enjoy it.

Only thing I can suggest was sorta suggested above. Make sure what you buy has good reimbursement policies. Typically a LONG time in the SL world on the creator/seller might be an indication of potentially smart enough sellers to realize customers lose non-copy items. Else only buy, as previously suggested, COPY items.

Sorry to hear about your lost items.

As a new merchant, it's good to hear that people are understanding why so many merchants make items copy/no mod/no transfer. I keep sales records and so I can (and do) replace any items my customers lose for whatever reason.

By selling the items as copy, you can make your own backups if you wish and by making it no transfer, I'm assured I won't see the item in someone's yard sale for 5x the original selling price and I can replace my customer's lost or broken items without question.

Good luck, contact the people you bought the items from...you never know..

They just rely on everyone giving up on a few $ here and there.

To be honest, linden should open up server hosting, so that for a fee you can connect your own server to the grid. this would also attract more RL companies since they wont store their data on the linden severs.

This would be a nightmare from an administrative point of view. Just imagine servers not being updated, servers with non-uniform code and hardware, possible network problems with client servers, security risks, etc. It would be bad. I could see the lindens selling servers they configured and controlled so you could have your own lag free machine (like an island, but all 4 plots lets say),but even that would be subject to problems with the centralized asset servers and the like.

In short, this is a common problem amongst continually edited programs and MMORPGs. You fix one thing and something else comes up. The only thing they can really do is thoroughly test the changes before deployment. Even after doing that though, there still is a chance there are going to be problems because the two environments are not exactly the same.

With that said, it would be nice if the lindens were a little more helpful when these problems do occur. As a developer, I routinely now keep 5-6 copies of the same thing simply because I am afraid I am going to lose something due to these problems. If the lindens were more helpful for returning items that were lost, or made an automated system where avatars could retrieve something via an "avatar restore", I wouldn't have to keep so many items and would probably reduce the load on their asset servers. Even if it cost say $L10 per item or something, it would be worth doing simply so you don't lose high value items or, even more valuable time.

Just my thoughts.

Over the past month or so I've lost about 5k in dancer outfits, boots and limited edition bikinis. These disappeared right out of my inventory leaving only empty folders with notecards in them. I tried the clearing cache thing too with no luck, also reinstalled. I agree, it's not just the money but the time, hours upon hours sometimes to find what I wanted and waiting so long for shops to rez. Oh well, thanks to slexchange.com and slboutique.com, it won't take me long to repurchase them. One guy told me the same thing happened to him and everything reappeared in his inventory about a month later after one of the patches so I'm giving it a little longer.

Hi,

I'm not sure if I had the same situation you're having but it sounds like I might have...

I returned my items from my land and they all got "packed" into one item. I went into my lost and found, rezzed the last item to be put in there and all of the inventory I thought I had lost was there. I'm not sure if this is the case with you since it doesn't sound like you returned over 900 prims like I did, just thought I would throw in my 2 cents and try to help.

I have a notecard that a Linden dropped on me when I asked for some help, if you want it please message me in game.
