I recently got a new computer and had it configured to be SL-centric (SLentric), or in other words, I wanted it to fit with Second Life as snugly as hand-in-glove. Or something like that.

These are the parts:

PROCESSOR (CPU) -
AMD Opteron 170

GRAPHICS CARD - eVGA e-GeForce 7800GT CO
MEMORY (RAM) - OCZ EL Platinum PC3200 2GB
MOTHERBOARD - ASUS A8N-E
COMPUTER CASE - Antec Sonata II
HARD DRIVE - Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250GB
DVD WRITER - LG GSA-4167B

And the full writeup is on mah blog should you want to read.

Basically, beforehand, I had a whole bunch of unfounded hypotheses on my lap about "How well will this computer do with SL?", and I wanted to do something practical and actually live through this.

My old compy, as trusty as it was, was feeling rather stale, so I knew I had to get a move on sooner or later.

I slept and dreamed... and saw ripple water... oceans of undulating H2O I couldn't see. Sigh.

That was just the surface of my ocean tho.

One day I woke up and ordered!

Hope this will be of help to those Resis who are searching for more starting points as to what to look for in a high-performance computer to run SL, or just some various ideas of things you can do with your existing system (I write about the NVIDIA Forceware graphics tweaks). :)

Just a gentle nudge we've got a new System Requirements page up too, which has improved recommendations. :D
