I think I'm having similar issues. This is my first attempt at SL, and after first install I was requested to unblock it via Win Firewall - but before I could allow the box disappeared and a crash report came up. I tried running as admin, but same issue. I can open the program and log in, however, once the progress bar completes the program tasks out and the crash report box appears. I chose to start my char. on Help Island, and while the prog bar is loading I can hear the waves and everything seems to load fine - until it reaches the end of the bar and it crashes and closes out. I have installed it on an external drive (although I don't believe this to be the issue), rebooted, re-installed. I have no background programs running, aside from typical windows firewall. I went in and allowed second life exception in the firewall settings, still no avail. I have noticed that when I attempt to log in from the SL client, it also has too many characters in my password, however I change this usually and doesn't seem to be a cause either. I am running:

Vista 32, Ati Radeon 1950xpro, Catalyst ver. 8.6 (latest driver for my chipset), Broadband connection, AMD dualcore 64x 2.6g, 3g ram.

I have both IE and Firefox (although haven't changed the SL settings as of yet). I have checked the grid and there was mention of downtime for an auction reboot, however this was yesterday, and much earlier in the day than my attempts. I've been looking at all crash and log in issues on the forums, but many of them aren't symptomatic of my situation, yet I'll keep looking. If I find a solution will post here, however any help is very appreciated! Ty. :)

I seem to be having the same issue. I was in a sim, and suddenly crashed. When I tried to log in, the loading bar completed. I then stood in-place for 2 minutes, my computer completely froze up, and my cursor showed the loading symbol. Then, a couple seconds later, SL completely crashed and I get the message "The application Second Life has unexpectedly quit." on my desktop. I tried again, and the same thing happened. I've tried emptying my cache, and I haven't changed anything at all with my computer between now and when I signed on earlier today.

Ive the same issue. When i logging me in, sl crashes after a few moments without any reason. But not everytimes.. sometimes ive no problem and the other time i cant even answer my IM cuz it crashes immediately.
I think its because of my bad Internet-connection, but i dont know what i can do about this.
please, i need some help -.-

Normally a bad internet connection does not cause a crash. The most common problem is loss of connection with you stuck not being able to do anything besides maybe spinning in circles or you endlessly going off into never never land.......but you still see the world around you. A crash is usually caused by some software or hardware shutting the viewer down unexpectedly.......such as suddenly winding up at your desk or, more serious, getting a lock up of the computer or the infamous BSOD. A little better discription of exactly what is happening would help for getting some suggestions or solutions for you.

If it is a connection problem the first thing to do that often solves the problem is to reboot (or power cycle) your modem and router (if a router is present). Simply shut down your computer, unplug the modem and router from the electrical source and leave unplugged for 3 minutes (possibly as long as 5 minutes) and then plug them back in. Once the LED's have settled to their normal blinking reboot your computer.......try SL again.
