My Stargate disappeared!

I logged in last night only to find that my Stargate was missing. No, it's not just invisible...it is truly gone. (For those who don't know, the Stargate is a teleportation portal that takes people to their home point. It is a large ring with Egyptian symbols on it that you walk through).

Now I'm not sure if this was a bug in the system or an act of vandalism, but either way, it is annoying. Not only was it gone, but I did NOT get my money back for it disappearing.

Now this gave me the opportunity to rebuild it, and make it better. And this time I wrote the script that makes it work. So now it looks and acts better than before!

But that doesn't mean I am not still concerned about what happene to the original. I wonder if it is still lurking somewhere out there.

Is there any way to know?

That stinks, I liked the stargate.

Something like this happened to me, where my entire bookstore was completely gone. Except that's because I left modify perms on I believe and some evil do-er decided not only to copy it all but to delete it too. Since you didn't get your money back though, that sounds like a bug.

Be careful building copyrighted stuff, and be especially careful talking about it here. Intellectual property holders pay certain companies top dollar to look for infringement, and if they see it, they report it. These companies pour over every newspaper they can get their hands on, and doing a Google search and finding this thread is total cake for them. Remember Coruscant? They had to change their name because that name belongs to the Star Wars franchise.

I investigated this incident and found that the stargate had been set "modifiable" for all users which means it was deletable. Unfortunately the logs from that far back have already been purged so I was unable to determine who did the deleting or whether money was properly refunded (I counted only 3 visible and 1 invisible primitives so the refund would have only been $30-$40). Driftwood, are you sure the $ was not refunded? I'd be very suprised to find this to be the case.

We've had several bug reports about missing content, too many for us to track them all down. However I've been doing some spot checking and so far they have all been accidentally deleted content (probably from box-select) or content that was set "modifiable" by others which can be deleted by accident or on purpose.

I'm interested in investigating a fresh occurence of missing content so if you had something that you are fairly confident you did not accidentally delete and that was set "no-modify" for others then please submit a bug report (don't post the details here). Be sure to mention when you were sure the content was last intact.

Note that it is possible for a sim to crash and get into a state where it is unable to load its saved content and a "rollback" to an earlier time is necessary. These are _very_rare_ these days and the rollbacks will probably never exceed 1 hour (only fresh content will be lost, or freshly deleted content will re-appear). Also they will be posted in the "Announcements" forum. If you have been adversely affected by a rollback you need to send a claim via the bug report tool describing what was lost.

Thanks.

Thanks for your investigation Andrew. You are probably right that I got refunded. I just didn't notice the money difference. And yes, it was probably set modifiable since someone else did the scripting and I probably forgot to change it back when he was done.

No big deal since I have recreated it and it is better than before. I will double check permissions this time!
