I have disabled all firewall systems, and I am not on a wireless network. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Secondlife software. My computer is up-to-date, and I have been a regular member of Secondlife since 2004.

I get the first message after it stops at "waiting for region handshake". It says, "We are having trouble connecting. There may be a problem with your internet connection or Secondlife servers. You can either check your internet connection and try again in a few minutes, click help to connect to our support site, or teleport to attempt to teleport home."

I have tried all solutions to no avail.

2. The second error is happening when the first doesn't. It says, " You are being disconnected from the region".

Both errors are occuring during random alternate log-in attempts.

I have been trying to log on for 5 hours, and the grid is online. I have no idea what to do at this point. As a nonpaying member, I can't get any technical support by sending tickets in relation to this. Someone please help! I am having SL withdrawels...:P

It sounds indeed like your network. Are you on broadband? If so, power off your modem/router for 10 minutes, reboot your computer, power on and try it again.

The little boxes sometimes get confusipated :)

run Hijackthis, look for winsock errors (if vista, some will appear automatically (2)) if you have winsock errors, seek advice on cleaning them. (look for ONLY winsock errors)

Turn off any P2P monitoring software such as Peer Guardian. This solved it for me. Had nothing to do with router ports or firewall.

My daughter had put Peer Guardian on her computer and it kept SL from working properly, like Sulia said.

Not of course that that necessarily has an bearing on the OP's problem but it's yet another to keep in mind when people report login problems.
