I'm from Spain and my Second Life don't work, I don't know what to do.
The program says "Gathering hardware information. App may appear frozen. Sending alternate server, try 1..."
And then SL closes.
I open it several times and it's not resolved.

HELP ME!
Thanks!

Hi Nusky, welcome to the forums. I'm sorry that I don't speak Spanish!

It sounds like a networking problem. A few questions:

1. Are you using wireless? If so, that may be the problem. If you can possibly test it on a wired broadband connection, do so.

2. Has SL ever worked well for you, or is this your first time trying SL? If SL used to work well for you, what changed since the last time it worked well?

3. Your firewall may be blocking ports that SL needs to have open. Here's the Knowledge Base article on configuring your firewall for SL:

https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=4355

If you are at a school or company, you may have no control over the firewall, and they will probably not be willing to open it for you. :(

Good luck!

It is crashing on hardware detection you say? It doesn't get any further?

What operating system are you running? Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS X, Linux?

Are your drivers all up to date? I would suspect drivers (primarily, video, network, audio) as the culprit here.

It's not my first time, i've been here since May of 2007.
But it's the first time that i wrote in Forum.
I have a laptop so it's WIRELESS but yesterday i hadn't got any problem when I connected.
I have WINDOWS XP.
Mmmmm..
I can manage my firewall I will take a look.
If you can reply with more solutions tell me about it!
Thanks!

I just desactivate my firewall and don't work SL.
So I think that's not the problem.

I would check for video driver updates.

Also make sure that you are fully up to date with Windows Update.

Had this problem myself for ages using Vista. Updated everything, video drivers etc. with no success. Finally, a nice gentleman pointed me to the Privelege Level on the program's properties and to run the program as administrator. Success... yey!
