ATI 3D Rage II + DVD Card

I have a ATI 3D Rage II card for my computer. I was wondering of anyone here has tried this card with Second Life. The knowledge base said something about this card was not compatible with SL. Does anyone know for sure, before I throw it away. Thanks in advance.

Thanks I figured as much but thought I would ask. Think I will just bite the bullet and get a NIVDA card. Got any suggestions for s good inexpensive one.

altho if you just look at any computer website you can get the bottom of the barrel ati and nvidia models for ~30 bucks

which if your looking to upgrade from a 128 bit rage 2 would be ok, your computer is not really going to take advantage of a zippier card

My machine is a P4 2.4 Giz with 1.5 Giz of ram, but the video is a NIVIA Geforce2 MX 100/200 which just is not enough.

By the sound of it, you'll end up buying a new computer if you plan on running SL really.

a 2.4 ghz dual core that SL wont take advantage of?

yes a faster bus and ram, but unless you biuld it yourself your most likley going to end up with the slowest ddr2 ram (133mhz faster, barley noticable even in benchmarking) and windows vista, which will drag it down to the speed of a 1.3 ghz computer

get a 100$ 7600 it will be ok (not outstanding) but for the money ...

my "sl computer" (cause my newer ones have better things to do) is a 1.9ghz athlon with 1gb of ram and a 6600GT (overclocked) and as long as i dont go NUTZ with the full blast detail options it will crank out 30 fps in windlight @ 1280x1024

even when i do crank everything to full blast its a decent 15fps

If he dont have a agp slot , he would have to get a new motherboard, p4 'ones doesnt exsist anymore, and a new motherboard most likly dont his current cpu & ram wich would require those new, + new psu since the old ones most likly not powerfull enough to run a 7600 watt requirement compared to a 3drage,ectect, thats why i said he'd most likly end up getting a new pc to get SL running.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I found an ATI HD2600 with 512 ram yesterday at best buy on clearance, was $199 marked down to $99. Got it and it works fine.

1) i have that rage 2 card in agp2x soo nahhaha
2) ive ran bigger cards on smaller power supplys it all depends on the load
3 yes this forum sucks on the speed, but somehow i havent hit a 503 error today
