I have a SIM in SL that caters to RL artists. We are trying to use Second Life as an extension of our RL business. At this moment, I am fed up with SL. I am ready to disband my SIM and leave the platform altogether. Why? For the last 6 weeks my SL experience has been HELL! My Mac book Pro bought in 2006 that works amazing for every graphics program I have and I have checked every part of the hardware and graphics. It is ABOVE the minimum requirements, I have reinstalled my operating system three times in a month, and SL is crashing or logging me out when I try to log in. After two hours of my painting time was wasted AGAIN this evening. I have decided that SL IS NOT A VIABLE solution to online marketing. Can anyone help me? After going through the forums back and forth I cannot find anywhere someone who is not computer savvy, can ask simple questions and get simple answers to source out problems. If Second Life wants businesses in here, they had better consider the small ones. For now, no more Second Life for me.

I know nothing about Macs so my advice or suggestions are strictly generic. Most problems with people using SL is either their network (and it's setup), their graphics, computer setups, or background programs running that create conflicts. I understand most Mac users don't use antivirus software. But, I think they are subject to maleware just as Windows machines..........check for stuff related to spyware. Firewalls can give headaches..........check if anything like that is in need of configuring. If you have background programs running, turn them off. Skype and similar programs can interfer too. And heat is always a potential problem..........if you are getting hot inside the computer it will crash or shut you down unexpectedly (Macs are not immune to that).
And on the use of SL for a RL platform to extend your business. Despite what LL wants you to think, the technology that SL is built on is not quite ready for any serious use as a business platform. Someday it may get there........but it's no where near there yet.

Internet Connection*: Cable or DSL Cable or DSL Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4.11 or better Mac OS X 10.5.4 or better Computer Processor: 1 GHz G4 or better 1.25 GHz G4 or better Computer Memory: 512 MB or more 1 GB or more Screen Resolution: 1024x768 pixels 1024x768 pixels or higher Graphics Card**: •ATI Radeon 9200 and above •OR ATI Radeon X Series •OR NVIDIA GeForce 2, GeForce 4 •ATI: X1600, X1900, X2400, X2600 •OR NVIDIA: 6800, 7600, 7800, 8800
Mac requirements above. Generally speaking, mac books and linux are secondary platforms for SL, that being said, there are issues with both and the software/client. In terms of small business, not many business' use mac as a primary platform, even outside of the virtual world, most companies use windows as a backbone and mac's as secondary. I know personally I would never use a mac book primarily for a business perspective. I cannot offer much help as I do not work on MAC's, but I do know there are some severe compatability issues with Mac's unless you duel boot with an operating system for windows, if your macbook has the capabilities.
