Ive got a P4 2.8 G processor
2G RAM
HIS ATI X1950 pro AGP, 256 MB

Ive had crash after crash while trying to play, seems to be caused by graphics problems

Tried the newest catalyst and omega drivers.

Tried running the onres and the newest SL clients, also tried an older version of SL.

Getting fed up with this and wondering if this game is worth this much trouble.

any help, suggestions?

Did you uninstall the video drivers and run a driver cleaner before installling a new video driver?

Have you checked your fans to see if they are all running at full speed and are clean?

How many different drivers have you tried? There are lots, if there's one that works for you, it might be the one you haven't tried yet.

Have you checked in the issue tracker for x1950?

my recommendation: get an nividia chip. (if it's a laptop , well... you'll have to try other tricks I have already posted)

I am using a ATI X1950Pro PCIe and it runs SL very well in the high setting. Just the random crash problem but that is not ATI related as I have the same problem when I had my Nvidia card in.

With all those different versions of the client and different drivers I suspect it is not the video card. Try running some other OpenGL game and see if it crashes. Might be a temperature issue or could just be a SL issue. I know a few people that crash consistently with various types of hardware.

What is your crash rate? Every few minutes, few hours,...?

D3D could very well be the issue too. or comptability on the OS.

i pulled the x1950 pro AGP card out and stuck in my old GeForce 5600 AGP, With the GeForce I dont crash near as often. I can stay in game a few hours rather than crashing ever 10 minutes or less with the ATI card. Id still like to be able to run the X1950pro, because it does run my other games a LOT better. Im just tired of messing with it though.
If the person with the X1950 could tell me what driver set they are using , Id be much appreciative.

ATI Catalystâ„¢ 8.7. I kinda doubt drivers are going to fix the issue. I am certain it is on LL's side as I have used this card for a couple years now and only in the last few months has these random crashes started happening. It doesn't happen in any other OpenGL or DirectX game. I am sure LL is aware of it providing their crash logger is actually doing something. It has sent a few hundred reports over the last few months. lol

EDIT: I am on XP Home with Service Pack 3.

They might not look here again. You might want to send them a forum PM and in inworld IM or drop them a notecard.
