Hello!
For a couple of days now my movement control arrows will not work. I can only rotate and jump, but cannot move forward and backward properly. If at times I can get the move forward arrow to work... I just keep walking and walking and cannot stop.
* I am running Vista on my computer which is a Dell Studio XPS.
* I have run multiple virus scans which are negative.
* Using the SL Viewer 1.23
Lag also seems to be a major problem as well... sometimes in Local chat it takes a long time for my text to show... or it doesn't show at all.
Can someone offer any advice?
Thank you and your time is appreciated,
Faedrie

What you are discribing is classic lose of connection problems. Resetting your modem and/or router will likely fix it for you.......especially the router if you have one. Simply shut down your computer, unplug the two devices from the electric source and leave them unplugged for 3 to 5 minutes........plug back in, wait for the lights to settle to the normal blinking, reboot your computer and try SL again.
If, that does not work give us some computer specs including, CPU, graphics adapter (dedicated VRAM), system RAM, type of connection to the internet (cable, DSL, T1, etc).

Hi Peggy ... thank you for your response... I tried what you suggested but to no avail... these are the specs you requested:
CPU: Intel(R) Core (TM) i7 CPU 920A267GHz Dedicated VRAM: 512 mb System Ram: 6.00 GB RAM Connection: cable Graphics Card: ATI Readon HD 4800 series
I am afraid I am going to have to buy a new computer and this one is only 3 months old.... is there anything else you can think of to solve my problem???
Thank you so much! Faedrie

I wouldn't go out and buy a new computer. That computer will run SL quite well. There's a couple things more to try. First, if you are using a wireless connection to a router get some Cat5E cable and hardwire your computer to one of the RJ-45 connectors on the back of your router..........wireless connections are sometimes flakey with SL and it's massive amount of data sent to you. Second (even though you have not discribed this issue as being a problem) is to go into your preferrences, on the graphics tab, click the "custom" button......find the "enable VBO" and uncheck it if it's checked. ATI cards have a problem in that area.
One other thing that I've not heard a lot of problems with lately is if you are using Norton Anti Virus (or any of the Symantic security suits) to try logging in with that disabled. I know Norton, in the past, has been quite an issue with SL........I know it was for me, but that was a couple years ago. You also might check to see if your firewall is blocking anything from SL.
What you discribed is typical loss of connection. Especially that walking off to never never land. Something in your network is almost definitely the root of the issue. A new computer will not fix that.

Peggy .. again I thank you!!!
I tried your suggestions and stumbled across a 'firewall' issue with the Windows Service Pack 2 ..... what it came down to is that I disabled that particular firewall in the pack and if took care of the connectivity/arrow movement problem. This has been a very odd problem, but maybe someone else is having the same problem, too.
Thank you so much for your advice, it is people like you who take the time to help others that makes SL and enjoyable place.
Ty! TY! TY!
