I will now fully explain why a mixture of Linden Labs, Microsoft, and Creative is causing me the biggest PC headache I have ever encountered (this tops losing and slowly recovering a 60 GB hard drive and diagnosing a dead power supply).

Hardware/Software on system (important stuff):

Windows XP Home Edition
Sound Blaster Live! Value card
Boston Acoustics speakers
Second Life

Conflicting procedures:

1: Using the latest Sound Blaster Drivers specified for my card. (Downloading and executing them)

2: The ability to update hardware drivers via right-clicking on "My Computer" and going to Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Sound, video, and game controllers -> Right clicking on Creative SB Live! series and choosing "Update driver..."

The main problem:

In order for my Boston speakers to work correctly, I must go and use procedure 2. In order for Second Life sound to work correctly, I must go and use procedure 1. A mixture of the two is merely procedure 2 overwritting procedure 1, as Windows believes that the Microsoft drivers are more up to date than the drivers on the Sound Blaster website.

Do you understand this dilemma, Linden Labs? :D

Here are a few more facts you may need if you dare take on this problem of mine.

Using procedure 1 or 2 still allows my headphones to work. It's the fact that my speakers requires "digital output only" to be checked that's making them different from my headphones.
I can't think of anything else...

Ok... there ya go. Bye :)

"Dude, you got a Dell?"

Read the posts here, for all your Dell ripoffs. The Soundblaster Live! card is merely a cheap, unsupported card with Creative's name slapped on it. Shame on these companies.

God that sucks, glad I build my own machines. I know EXACTLY what components are in there and where they're from, and I don't have to mess with wierd "system restore" CDs that lock up all my applications so that I can only reinstall them by nuke-and-paving the whole system.
