Hi all,

I've just started to use the release client and am experiencing some strange issues.

When I first try to log in, it stalls for a little while and then a message comes up like....

'we seem to be experiencing difficulties...etc etc..please check the website...'

But..... the second time I log in, I get in with no problems. I've tried this quite a few times and it's always the same... 1st attempt is not successful, 2nd attempt goes just fine.

Would anyone have any idea why this may be happening? When I use the main client, there's no problems logging in, this only occurs with the release client...

Thanks in advance...

I've been having the same issue! Except when I just tried to log in now, the second attempt brings me the message that 'SL is closed for emergency maintenance, check the status, etc'. Status only mentions in-world issues - nothing about SL being offline. Weird. Guess I'll go back to the main viewer for now.

SL's having it's normal friday-afternoon problems today - doesn't matter which client you use right now.

very true Meade...but it's been like that since for a few days now, it's just really strange.

Weird. If you have an alt, you might try logging in with that account and checking to make sure your main is really offline - send yourself a test IM or TP. It could be that you're crashing every time you exit SL and the first failure is due to your main still being semi-logged in.

When I've had that happen, it usually gives me a different message ("region has begun logout process" or something) but I can't think of any other reason that your first try would fail so often.

I've noticed it happening for every log-on since I downloaded the latest release candidate.

That's exactly it Elizabeth, this is happening just with the release client.... wonder if that would be considered a 'bug' of some sort? I probably wouldn't recognise a 'bug' unless it came up and introduced itself to me though...lol

Since we are talking about the RC has anyone bug reported it? The RC is released to us users to test and report any bugs we might find. They released it for us to help find and report bugs or glittches so LL can fix them before it is released as an official viewer. If you simply see the problem and don't report it how do you expect LL to fix it? Leave it to someone else to report? Come to the forums in the hopes of finding a workaround?

Doesn't seem to me that that is what LL expected from the users of the RC's. By using the RC's you are agreeing to find bugs and report them (of course you can ignore that and do as you please, but really you should try to help out instead of bitching about it)......if you don't want to help out way, why aggrivate yourself by using it?

This is about the 10th thread I've seen about this issue - although probably the best titled :).

Yes, several people.

I haven't reported it personally, because several others already had by the time I'd noticed the problem. And, yes - it would be nice to have a work-around to use until the issue is resolved.

Sorry to have offended you by posting about it. :P

The problem with workarounds for bugs (until they are fixed) is that the workaround way too often becomes the "fix". When a program is being beta tested (as we all are when using the RC's) to goal is not to get workarounds so we can continue to use the program but, instead, to find and report the bugs so they can be fixed BEFORE the program becomes our everyday program of choice for normal usage. "Reporting" a bug to other residents and asking for workarounds in a technical forum that the people who can (and are tasked to) fix it don't even look at is silly......actually, it's a little more than silly but I'll refrain on that.

I wasn't offended at all. Just noting that inquiring around for work arounds to a bug in a technical forum gets nothing constructive done. But, I must admit to getting a few chuckles at prople complaining about things like these when there is a very good solution. Use the regular, official, viewer instead of the beta viewer if the problem bothers you so much.

I'm not so tech-savvy when it comes to bugs and reporting etc... I was just curious to know as to whether or not anyone else was experiencing this issue.. But now that I know it's actually a 'bug'....I'll add my contribution to the jira... I have actually gone back to using the main client....

Though I may actually wait untill perhaps my av's head explodes before enquiring about a 'technical' issue again... ;)

I would never hesitate to ask a technical question in a technical forum if I needed some input. Yet, at the same time I would hesitate to ask a non technical question in this forum about a problem with a viewer...........there is a forum just above this one for questions along those lines. :)

But, hey..........ask away. I'll read them anyway :)
