Hello, all.
I am new to SL today. Everything is checking out fine, Video drivers are updated, All Firewalls and anti-virus software are off. I'm running Win2000 ...
However, when SL loads, it does just fine until it gets to the License and Agreement window, where it just hangs and hangs, and the "Agree" Button never lights up. No error messages are displayed.
Seeing as I have already accepted the Terms when I first purchased a registration, I don't quite understand why this box is coming up. At any rate, what can I do to get past this?
Yes, I am using Dial-Up, but I highly doubt this is the cause of text not displaying in the box.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's the dialup. Absolutely, 100%. Second Life CANNOT be used with dialup. It says that on the sign-up page, in the requirements.
You'll need to get broadband in order to use Second Life. Sorry.

Dear James,
thank you for your reply. Actually, the Load did indeed end up working after we changed the bandwidth to 100kb.
Now SL is running. Why is it insisted that it won't work *at all* on Dail-Up?
Anyhow, thanks again for your reply.

They say that because Second Life streams EVERYTHING to your PC. Nothing that is in SL is on your computer -- it's all stored on the servers. Dialup isn't fast enough to stream the amount of data that SL requires.
I'm glad to hear that you got it working -- you're the first person I know of who was able to get it working by lowering the bandwidth.
Who is your ISP and what speed is your dial-up?

SL on dialup
06-12-2004 17:22
Hi James
When our broadband was down a few weeks ago I had to use dialup. I thought what the heck and tried SL, not expecting to be able to even log in, but I did, it was very very slow and laggy but it worked.
I'm in the UK, my isp is Freeserve and it was a 56k modem connection.

Hey Again,
My ISP is Everyone's Internet, with a 56k modem. Yes, the game is a little laggy, but it is still playable, with a little patience. I hope to get broadband sooner than later, but for now, this will do.
so far, I have made my avatar, passed all the main tests and entered to my First world...

Well, see, I know SL does work on dialup -- i've done it, as a bunch of others have. We call it "Shebanin' it", because the first person to do it was Shebang Sunshine. The only thing is, it's pretty much impossible to get the ToS to load on dialup, so, if you're a new member, you're outta luck. The only way to do it is if you can accept the ToS on broadband and then play on dialup, but, even that is realllllly laggy. Qyal, you were very lucky.

Indeed! And it sitll basically works, but, as said when we spoke in-game, it's quite slow.
I hope to get DSL next week. Until then, I'll have to keep being paitient!
Btw, what does ToS mean? (or, was that ToL?)

v1.4 Gives A Speed Boost?
06-16-2004 10:00
I downloaded the latest SL and tried it out last night. Suddenly, I can do more now than I could before while still on Dial-Up! Granted, I'm still getting High-Speed internet this Friday, but I marvelled at the difference since the upgrade. Maybe the speed boost was quite by accident on their part, but I won't complain - !

Well, but I have a 256k DSL line, and I also have problems downloading the ToS...
